Description

Galathea - A Timeless Classic - Havsörnen II / Sea Eagle II It is with great pride that we present for sale the Galathea – Havsörnen II / Sea Eagle II, a storied 34-foot yacht that is a testament to maritime heritage and Swedish craftsmanship. This stunning piece of history was crafted between 1964 and 1968 by Storebro Bruks AB, with only approximately 70 boats produced. Galathea was the 11th vessel in the series, delivered from the Storebro shipyard in 1966 and built upon a direct request by none other than its designer, the legendary Swedish yachtsman Olle Enderlein. ** During the summer of 2024, the boat will sail in the archipelago of Finland and Sweden. You are welcome to visit at one of the ports on the way. The owner is ready to sail the boat to its new owner, depending on the location. Galathea will be lifted up to the winter dock at the end of September. More information and photos in PDF-file and in the webpage: (https://www.galathea.fi/forsale) *** With an illustrious past, including a victorious history in racing – particularly prominent in the Gotland Runt open sea competition – Galathea bears the distinction and pedigree of a champion, having achieved several acclaimed positions and the prestigious Lidingö Pokal. The yacht's rich history is complemented by its construction, with a Honduras mahogany hull, accompanied by oak frames enhanced by metal framing and a teak deck that was entirely rebuilt in 2021. Its sleek design is instantly recognizable, boasting a spacious mahogany cockpit designed to comfortably host six for dinner, and a well- appointed interior that exudes both comfort and tradition. With a storied history of only five owners and a life that has voyaged from Sweden to its present location in Finland, Galathea calls to those who hold an appreciation for nautical tradition and the silent grace of wooden sailboats. A detailed restoration history accompanies the yacht, ensuring its next steward will appreciate the touch of history they are set to navigate. For the sailing connoisseur keen on reliving the grandeur of yesteryears, Galathea presents not just a yacht, but a legacy to carry forward. Contact us now to inquire about this exquisite classic sailboat and to experience its timeless elegance firsthand. The boat was a planned family boat for sailors with high pretensions. Spacious and well fitted saloon with four berths, large pantry and dinette. The interior is made of mahogany and the floorboards are teak. The cabin of the boat is special. The U-shaped sofa on the starboard side creates a sense of space and the sofa can also be used as a comfortable sleeping berth. There is an adjustable lift table in the middle, which is foldable and also suspended on a gimbal. Dinette, the pantry is located on the port side and space is reserved for a gas stove, a sink and a refrigerator, as well as a clothes rack. Several drawers and drawers are reserved for dishes and utensils. Originally a stainless steel "ice box" served as a refrigerator. A large ice cube was placed on the bottom of the refrigerator. A hose coming from the bottom of the refrigerator directed the melting water to the bilge. The ice box has been modernised into a refidgerator with an Isotemp-cooler. Havsörnen II boats were originally fitted with a Tiny Tot coal stove. Recently Galathea has been equipped with a new teak deck (2021), new sails (2019), a new electrical system, a heater, a sprayhood and other deck equipment. The current owner has taken care of the boat meticulously. In the last three years alone the boat's teak deck has been completely renewed and all the superstructure’s mahogany parts (coach roof and cockpit) have been cleaned, stained and varnished. In addition, the both sides of the hull have been painted (2024) and also the underwater parts of the hull have been stripped, impregnated and painted with Werdol-primer, Hempel-primer and 2 x anti-fouling paint (autumn 2023 right, autumn 2024 left). The restoration history is detailed later in the brochure. Havsörnen 2, Galathea, is truly something special. If you dream of sailing in style, you should take a closer look at this sailboat. During the summer of 2024, the boat will sail in the archipelago of Finland and Sweden. You are welcome to visit at one of the ports on the way.
