Description

The Thurø 33 was built at Thurø between 1974 and 1987, and with only 32 built, they were the only series-produced ships built by the shipyard. Thurø 33 was molded at LM Glasfiber and fitted at Walsteds Baadeværft, where 1,600 hours of fitting alone were expected. The Thurø 33 was considered one of the most exclusive on the market, and they are still considered sailing treasures today. The Thurø 33 was designed by brothers Peter and Niels Roos in collaboration with Aage Walsted in the mid-1970s, inspired by Sparkman & Stevens and Alden in the USA. Thurø 33 is a 3/4 ton Cup Cruiser and has, among other things, two class victories in Sjælland Rundt in its trophy case. "Silke" was built in 1979 with build number 158, and has since then had three owners, of which the current owner has had the ship since 1999. In 2005/2006, the engine was replaced with a freshwater-cooled Bukh DV20 (vintage 1986) with fixed propeller shaft and a 3-blade Flexofold propeller. In 2014/2015 a new teak deck was laid at Gilleleje Baadebyggeri, the bottom was sanded down and Coppercoat was applied and the hull penetrations were replaced. The mainsail and furling headsail are from around 2005 and are both older but still functional. The boom compression ring is around 3 years old. In addition, the sail wardrobe includes a genoa from around 2005 and an older spinnaker. It should be noted that the sprayhood and cockpit tent should be refurbished or replaced in the foreseeable future. To leeward, there are a total of 6 berths, two in the forward cabin, two in the saloon, plus a pilot berth and one in the bunkhouse. The galley consists of a hob with 2 gas burners, fridge/freezer with counter space and drawers. In addition, there is a navigation table with VHF on the opposite side. Between the saloon and the forward cabin is the toilet, which was replaced in 2020, and a washbasin. Review from Sejl og Motor in 1974: "There are boats where it can be difficult to mobilize a natural skepticism before a test sail. The new Danish 3/4 tonner, Thurø 33, belongs in this category. Even at first glance, you're biased. Everything just looks right. Lines that make any sailor open their eyes a little wider. An execution and finish that you almost have to get down and feel..." The 1974 price was NOK 330,000 plus the rest. A Norwegian article once noted that for the price of a Thurø 33 you could get a detached house. A price adjustment from 1974 (1.333) to 2022 (7.819) suggests a present-day price of just under 2 million, so the comparison with the detached house actually makes sense... Article from Bådmagasinet (2009): Thurø 33 was built at Walsteds Baadeværft on Thurø in the period 1974-1987, and is the only series-produced boat ever built. There are 32 of them, all of which are still sailing. The boats were considered to be some of the most exclusive on the market and were also very expensive. The craftsmanship and overall quality is as uncompromising as Walsted's other hand-built one-off boats and restoration projects. If you are lucky enough to find a used Thurø 33 on the market today, it will cost somewhere between DKK 400,000 and 500,000, depending on condition and equipment level.
