Grand Banks 36 Classic (1989) – The classic trawler with charm, character and proven reliability Are you looking for a classic Grand Banks where quality, craftsmanship and seaworthiness matter more than glossy brochure photos? This is your opportunity to own a Grand Banks 36 Classic from 1989 – one of the most sought-after models ever built by Grand Banks, renowned for its solid construction, timeless design and unique atmosphere on board. The boat is powered by twin Ford Lehman 135 hp diesel engines without turbochargers or intercoolers – the well-known, nearly indestructible engines that have made this model a favorite among long-distance cruisers and trawler enthusiasts. The engines have approximately 1,600 hours, start easily, run smoothly and have proven reliable during my ownership. Fuel consumption is impressively low, typically between 4 and 8 liters per hour depending on speed. The classic Grand Banks layout includes: Two cabins Two heads with showers Large, bright salon with excellent visibility Spacious flybridge Teak decks with attractive natural patina Radar, navigation equipment and autopilot (the radar works intermittently) The boat retains plenty of original charm and is fully usable as she is. However, she is not a new boat, and the asking price reflects that there are cosmetic projects a future owner may wish to address. Honest description of the known projects The interior was repainted approximately two years ago, but the finish has unfortunately not held up well, and several areas would benefit from refinishing. Some windows have cracks in the inner pane of the double-glazed glass. This is cosmetic rather than a safety issue, but it is visible. The flybridge cushions would benefit from new upholstery. General cosmetic maintenance and ongoing improvements should be expected, as with any classic vessel of this age. In return, you get a Grand Banks with sound mechanical systems, generous accommodation, a wonderful living environment on board, and a build quality that is difficult to find in many modern boats. This is not the boat for someone looking for a fully restored showpiece where every detail has already been completed by a shipyard. It is the boat for the Grand Banks enthusiast who appreciates classic quality, honest craftsmanship, and the opportunity to continue the story of one of the most iconic trawlers ever built. If you are looking for a classic Grand Banks with proven mechanics, timeless charm, and a price that leaves room for the final improvements, this boat is well worth a viewing.
