When walking around the harbor, some boats catch your eye immediately. This is exactly the case with this very beautiful and well-maintained yacht. Here you will find polished surfaces, noble woodwork, and fine lines. The excellent craftsmanship and the owner's joy in maintaining, owning, and sailing such a beautiful vessel radiate from her. The fine sailing yacht bears the melodious name: "Silja." She is a vessel that is, and always has been, in absolutely fine and seaworthy condition. Today she is owned and sailed by the second generation of the family that purchased her brand new in 1959. "Silja" has taken her skipper couple on many wonderful trips around Denmark and in our Scandinavian home waters. Of course, "Silja" has also made the journey to warmer climates under the Mediterranean sun - and back again - with great finesse. INTERIOR AND COMFORT: Even from a distance and before stepping aboard, you can sense the unique maritime atmosphere that "Silja" offers. The large inviting bowsprit made of stainless steel and teak provides easy access to the foredeck. Here she is equipped with double roller furling for both jib and genoa that present themselves beautifully and easily. The teak deck is really nice and lovely, providing access aft to the fine cockpit. Everything here exudes true maritime style. The cockpit features thick teak on both the coaming benches and on the sole. There is ample space around the cockpit table as well as good room for maneuvering while sailing since the boat has tiller steering. The helm is equipped with a "catch" on the cockpit coaming so that the tiller can be easily and elegantly fixed in any desired direction. A nice little detail that can be greatly appreciated. Alternatively, you can naturally use the autopilot during those moments when you don’t wish to have hold of the tiller. When you go below deck, you are surprised by how bright and fine "Silja" appears. Everywhere there is just plenty of daylight streaming beautifully through the many tempered glass windows. The size and spaciousness below decks are other excellent attributes of this vessel. The layout is indeed quite special as there are two salons in the boat. The first salon serves as a navigation area and lounge space. From here you move forward into the boat where we encounter the galley followed by the second large salon. Here you will find a double sofa arrangement around a central table in traditional style. All the way forward there is a closed toilet room and a V-berth with sleeping space. Aft on starboard side there is also a smaller quarter berth. There is excellent headroom throughout: 190 cm in the fore salon and 182/190 cm in the main salon, as well as 176 cm out in the forepeak. CONDITION AND MAINTENANCE: "Silja" is built on oak frames with laminated ash veneer. The cladding is made of 32 mm thick mahogany. The deck and cockpit are made of teak wood. All teak originally measured 15 mm thick, with about 10 mm thickness remaining today. The teak has been laid using Sikaflex and screwed down. The boat is riveted but has bronze fastenings. The keel bolts are stainless steel with cast iron keel. Sea valves are also made of bronze. The deck over the salon is constructed from marine plywood with fiberglass on top of the cabin roof. All windows are tempered glass except for three small windows at the sprayhood which are acrylic/polycarbonate. All external woodwork from waterline up has been treated with Coelan instead of varnish. The teak deck remains untreated. The Coelan product from Hempel typically lasts about eight years without renewal. Coelan was first applied in 2011 after all old varnish was removed. Four years ago everything was sanded down again before being treated twice more with new Coelan. Below decks, Coelan has also been used on cabin sides etc., while some areas have regular varnish applied. The three sails are good considering their age; they are all usable while appearing tidy, white, and neat. The hull has been freshly painted with Hempel's Red Mille paint; naturally, she has been stored ashore every winter. The boat has never been damaged or stranded; it remains 100% watertight. The engine and cooling system have been regularly serviced with new filters, oil changes, zincs etc. WELCOME ABOARD: "Silja" must be seen in person where she truly comes into her own.
