Description

BEAUTIFUL 10 METER R-YACHT IN MAHOGANY AND FIR ON OAK. THIS INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL 10 METER YACHT was built in Svendborg in 1923 by Sophus Weber. The boat's name is AAWORYN. Construction number 10 D5. THIS UNIQUE YACHT HAS WON SEVERAL RACES AROUND THE WORLD - IT IS EVEN EXTREMELY FAST - WHILE THE COMFORT ON BOARD SHOULD BE IN ORDER. Built on cross frames. Hull painted white mahogany above the waterline, fir below the waterline. Current owner - since 1979 - has completely restored the boat between 1979 and 1988. The hull has been epoxy-treated (West method), new planks, keel plank, deck, Oregon pine on plywood, various frames, and much more. The boat received a new mast in 2007. This "Eyecatcher" is ONLY being sold due to age... The owner's age. However, the owner is still an active sailor - this summer (2018) he sailed 1,500 nautical miles singlehandedly in the boat... Under 10mR-Yacht, you can read much more about these incredible boats. Also, see these links: http://classicyachtinfo.com/ http://classicyachtinfo.com/yclass/10-metre/ The international 10-meter class is a design class, which means that the boats are not identical but are all designed to meet specific measurement formulas, in this case, the international rule. In their heyday, Meter classes were the most important group of international races, and they are still actively running around the world. "10" is a product of the formula; 10mR boats are on average 16.5 meters long. 10mR was used as an Olympic class in the 1912 and 1920 Olympics. The international rule was established in 1907 to replace earlier, simpler handicap systems, which were often local or at best national. Under AAWORYN, the following can be read: The Yacht's original name was 'Luna V' and she was sailed in the Danish 10-Metre fleet from 1923 - 1926 with sail number: 10 D5. She was sailed by the designer and shipyard owner Sophus Weber of Svendborg, Denmark. 1927-1948 Sail number 10 S3 - Owner Hans Bruu sailed under the name 'Aavoryn' (Stockholm) Sweden. 1949 (1951)-1952 Sail number: 10 S3 Owner David W Lundin sailed under the name 'Aaworyn' (Stockholm) Sweden. 1953 Sail number: 10 S3 Owner Ulf Ljunggren & R Schitz sailed under the name 'Blue Nose' (Stockholm) Sweden 1954-1956 Sail number: 10 S3 Owner Ulf Ljunggren sailed under the name 'Blue Nose'. 1958- 1973 Sail number: 10 S3 Owner Walter Lindqvist sailed under the name 'Aavoryn'. 1974-1979 Sail number: 10 S3 Owner Hans Marklund, Peter Sarlen, Kennet Nordlund sailed under the name 'Aaworyn'. 1979 - present (2008) Sail number: 10 S3 Owner Rikard Wissing sailed under the name 'Aaworyn'."
