Description

This Vlet 400, built in 1932, is a classic steel vessel measuring 4.00 meters in length and 1.45 meters in width. With a draft of 50 cm and an air draft of also 50 cm, this boat is particularly suitable for use on inland waters such as lakes, canals, and rivers. Thanks to its compact dimensions and low air draft, this vlet can pass under low bridges and navigate narrow waterways. Construction and materials The hull of the Vlet 400 is entirely made of steel, contributing to the ship's robustness and stability. The deck is teak, providing a classic look and a pleasant walking experience on board. The boat comes with a deck cover, offering protection against weather conditions when not in use. Engine and technical specifications The Vlet is powered by an inboard diesel engine from 1956 with a 10 hp output. This single-cylinder engine is electrically started and was overhauled in 2020. Paired with the renewed propeller shaft with folding propeller, it provides efficient and reliable propulsion. The boat reaches a cruising speed of approximately 9.96 km/h and a maximum speed of around 14 km/h. The fuel tank has a capacity of 5 liters, sufficient for day trips on inland waters. The electrical system consists of one 43 Ah battery with a voltage of 12V, supplying the necessary power for starting the engine and other onboard electrical applications. Steering and handling The Vlet 400 is known for its maneuverability. Thanks to its compact size and hull design, the boat can turn almost on the spot, making maneuvering in narrow waters or at moorings easy. Suitable for up to five people, it is ideal for day trips with family or friends. Maintenance and condition The boat was last out of the water for maintenance in 2024. Although no recent antifouling treatment has been done, the hull has been visually inspected. The owner mentions that some minor work could still be done on the boat. Due to personal circumstances, this is no longer possible for the current owner. Safety equipment Onboard, there is a lifebuoy and a manual bilge pump. Usage and sailing area The Vlet has mainly been used on lakes and rivers for recreational day trips. The owner enjoyed leisurely cruises and recalls the sailing experience on the canals as one of the most beautiful memories. The boat is not registered, and no trailer is included in the sale. This 1932 Vlet 400 is a distinctive steel sloop with a long history. The combination of a overhauled diesel engine, renewed propeller shaft, and classic appearance makes this vessel appealing to traditional boat enthusiasts. Suitable for calm day trips on inland waters, accommodating five people, the Vlet is particularly well-suited for urban waters and narrow waterways.
