Comet 910 - Classic sailboat with thoughtful design and functional equipment The Comet 910 is an Italian-made sailboat, built in 1977 by the renowned shipyard Comar Yachts. The design comes from the hands of Van de Stadt in collaboration with Groupe Finot, two names known for their seaworthy and functional yacht designs. With a length of 9.10 meters, a beam of 3.06 meters, and a draft of 1.70 meters, this vessel offers a balanced combination of stability, maneuverability, and onboard comfort. Hull and construction The hull of the Comet 910 is made of fiberglass-reinforced polyester (GRP) with a round bilge shape, contributing to its sailing characteristics and comfort on open water. The fixed fin keel and skeg-mounted rudder ensure a stable course and good control, even at higher speeds or when sailing close to the wind. The hull is white with red striping, giving the boat a recognizable and classic look. The superstructure shows signs of aging and would benefit from a fresh coat of paint. Interior and layout Inside, the Comet 910 offers a practical and classic layout with a wooden interior. The headroom is 1.80 meters, providing sufficient freedom of movement for most occupants. The forepeak features a V-berth, while the salon has a U-shaped seating area that can be converted into additional sleeping quarters. A separate sleeping area is located aft, bringing the total to four fixed berths and two additional ones. The galley is equipped with a stove, sink, and ample storage space. The wet cell includes a manual toilet and a sink. The toilet discharge is directly connected to the outside water. For comfort on cooler days, there is a heater on board. Sail plan and rigging The Comet 910 is masthead sloop-rigged with an aluminum mast. The sail plan consists of a mainsail, genoa, storm jib, and spinnaker. The genoa features a furling system and is from 2019. The halyards and sheets are mostly led to the cockpit, making the boat suitable for solo or shorthanded sailing. Engine and technology Propulsion is provided by a Solé Mini 17 diesel engine with 17 hp. This two-cylinder inboard engine is electrically started and dates back to 1988. In 2024, the engine underwent maintenance, including the replacement of the impeller, filters, and oil. The fuel tank has a capacity of approximately 35 liters, with an average consumption of about 1 liter per hour. The cruising speed is around 12 km/h, with a maximum speed of approximately 14.4 km/h. Electronics and power supply Onboard are two batteries with a total capacity of 225 Ah. The electrical system includes a battery charger, inverter, shore power connection, and voltmeter. Navigation equipment includes a chartplotter, depth sounder, wind instrument, speedometer, compass, and autopilot. Navigation lights are present and functional. Equipment and safety Deck equipment includes a cockpit table, swim ladder, fenders, lines, and lifelines. An anchor with chain and line is provided, although an anchor windlass is missing. The cockpit is self-draining, and an electric bilge pump is installed. A dinghy or trailer is not included. Documentation and maintenance Various documents are included with the boat, such as invoices for modifications and maintenance, design drawings, and manuals. The boat was out of the water in 2024 for maintenance, including a new layer of antifouling. There are no signs of osmosis detected. Suitability and sailing area The Comet 910 is suitable for both inland and coastal waters. Thanks to its stable sailing characteristics and thoughtful sail plan, the boat is suitable for day trips, weekend getaways, and longer voyages with a small crew. Its low maneuvering speed and fine behavior close to the wind make it a pleasant boat to sail, even under changing conditions. Summary The Comet 910 is a well-built sailboat with functional equipment and a classic interior. The boat is designed for sailors who value seaworthiness, ease of operation, and a practical layout. With recent technical updates and a solid foundation, this yacht offers possibilities for both novice and experienced sailors looking for a vessel for recreational use on inland and coastal waters.
