Daimio 24 from 1977 – Compact sailboat with functional equipment General characteristics and dimensions The Daimio 24 is a polyester sailboat from 1977 with a length of 7.45 meters and a width of 2.45 meters. The draft is 1.15 meters, making the boat suitable for both shallow inland waters and coastal areas. The air draft is approximately 11 meters, allowing the boat to pass under most bridges. Inside, there is a headroom of 1.78 meters, providing reasonable freedom of movement in the cabin. Interior and accommodation The boat has four fixed berths, distributed throughout the cabin. The interior is equipped with mattresses, a gas oven, and a sink with a pressurized water system connected to a 120-liter water tank. There is a manually operated toilet on board, with direct discharge into open water. The presence of an Eberspächer diesel heater provides extra comfort on cooler days on the water. Sail plan and rigging The Daimio 24 is equipped with an 8.5-meter aluminum mast. The sail plan consists of five sails: a jib, two genoas, a spinnaker, and a storm jib. The boat has a roller mainsail and a headsail furling system, simplifying sailing. A Lazy-Jack system and a single-handed reefing system from Pfeiffer are present, making the boat suitable for solo sailing. Steering is done via a tiller connected to a single rudder. Navigation and electronics In terms of navigation, the boat is equipped with various Raymarine instruments, including a log, depth sounder, and wind gauge (ST40). The wind vane on the mast is currently missing and needs to be replaced. Additionally, there is an autopilot (Raymarine ST100 Tiller Pilot) and an I-Com VHF radio. The electrical system consists of two batteries, a solar panel, a wind generator, and a voltmeter. The onboard voltage is 12V and 220V. Engine and propulsion The inboard engine is a Volvo Penta MB2 with 8 hp, spread over two cylinders. The engine was overhauled in 2018 and has since run for approximately 30 hours. Fuel consumption is around 4 liters per hour. The fuel tank has a capacity of 20 liters. The cruising speed is approximately 7 km/h, with a maximum speed of about 11 km/h. The current operation of the engine is unknown. Hull, deck, and equipment The hull is made of polyester. The deck shows signs of use and could be revarnished. The wooden trims at the cabin entrance require treatment. On deck, various equipment pieces are present, including a teak deck, sprayhood (2019), cockpit tent (2011), swim ladder, pulpit and pushpit, and lifelines. There is one anchor with line onboard. Safety and additional equipment For safety, a four-person life raft is onboard, with the inspection status unknown. A manual bilge pump is present. The boat comes with a Harbeck brand road trailer, built in 2009. This tandem axle trailer is braked, has a load capacity of 3000 kg, and has a German license plate (LIP-WW 73). The trailer has a TÜV inspection valid until April 2027. Use and sailing area The current owner has owned the boat since 2009 and mainly used it on the Frisian lakes, the IJsselmeer, and the Wadden Sea. The boat has also proven suitable for canals and ditches. The combination of shallow draft and an autopilot makes the boat suitable for solo sailing. The boat was last taken out of the water for maintenance in 2022. Antifouling was applied in 2021. There are no signs of osmosis known. Documentation and registration The boat is not registered. Documentation includes insurance papers from recent years and a purchase agreement from 2009. There is no further technical or maintenance documentation available. Summary The Daimio 24 offers a functional base for sailors looking for a compact boat with a versatile sail plan. The boat is equipped with various amenities for multi-day trips and comes with a trailer, facilitating transport and storage. The maintenance condition and some technical aspects require attention, making this boat suitable for someone willing to invest time in refurbishing and optimizing the vessel.
