Boat Overview Kweli is a 2023 Excess 14, the premium 3‑cabin owner’s version, built by Groupe Beneteau—one of the most trusted names in yacht construction—and designed by VPLP for sailors who prioritize real performance and offshore capability. This is not a charter-spec cat; it’s a higher-quality, owner‑focused design with a low boom, aft helms, direct cable steering, a forward‑set rig, and sleek, efficient hulls that deliver the lively feel monohull sailors appreciate. Kweli is hull #6, and she has benefitted from the full suite of factory post‑production upgrades carried out by dedicated Excess/Beneteau teams. These teams visited the boat in Portsmouth (UK), Lanzarote (Canaries), and Trinidad to bring early Excess 14s up to the latest standard—protecting both safety and long‑term value. Key works include reinforcement of the forward hulls below the waterline and under the water tanks/mast step, upgraded rudder shaft bearings, improved bobstay and bowsprit arrangements, new davits and bow roller, additional deck cleats, upgraded mainsail reefing lines, and various running rigging and steering improvements. The result is an early‑hull Excess 14 that has been comprehensively updated by the builder itself. Interior Features Inside, the 3‑cabin layout provides a true owner’s suite with a central bathroom and generous storage—ideal for extended cruising. She’s also fully loaded with nearly every factory option plus major upgrades: a large solar array, lithium house bank, upgraded davits, watermaker, enhanced sail inventory, tender package, and more—making her genuinely turnkey and highly autonomous for bluewater sailing. Her owners, experienced long‑distance cruisers with multiple ocean crossings behind them, selected Kweli for serious offshore use and have already proven her with a safe, comfortable Atlantic passage. They are now finishing their cruise and plan to sell Kweli by the end of this season, and are open to earlier offers. Accommodation This Excess 14 is the top-of-class Owners Version, with a layout including the entire starboard hull dedicated entirely to the master’s cabin. This is a big improvement over common owners layouts in that, rather than dedicating massive space to a shower stall (a cheap way to use space is to leave it empty!), the forward cabin to starboard is designed as a spacious open-plan walk-in storage closet—convertible to a cabin with two single bunks, an invaluable upgrade for serious cruisers. The port hull has forward and aft queen bunks, with ensuite heads including separate shower stalls. The bridgedeck saloon offers comfortable seating for lounging or dining, both inside and out, while the galley provides ample counter space for elaborate cooking when the occasion calls, yet is also outfitted for easy, simple meal prep while underway. Everywhere throughout, you will see thoughtful touches and quality details setting this vessel well apart from the more common “charter cats” that so many are dealing with for cruising today. Each cabin has ample ventilation with hatches, ports, and fans, making her comfortable for tropical cruising as well.
