The Southerly 105 Ketch (1981) is a distinctive British sailing yacht featuring an electro-hydraulic lifting keel and a skeg-mounted rudder. This design combines excellent sailing performance with a variable draft of approximately 1.00 to 2.10 meters, making it ideal for both coastal and tidal waters as well as shallow inland waters such as the IJsselmeer, the Wadden Sea, and the Frisian lakes. The relatively rare ketch configuration offers additional flexibility in sail handling and ensures a stable course. Thanks to the sheltered central cockpit, dual helm positions, and practical deck layout, the vessel is easily manageable for single-handed sailing or a small crew. This particular example stands out due to significant investments and technical upgrades made in recent years. The most notable is the complete refit of the keel structure in 2025, an essential and costly maintenance item that has now been addressed for the long term. In 2023, among other updates, the standing and running rigging were renewed, a Furlex roller furling system was installed, and a Raymarine linear autopilot was professionally mounted on a reinforced rudder quadrant. The electrical system was also completely renewed in 2023, including an automatic switch panel and 220V connections. Furthermore, the yacht is equipped with a new Vetus bow thruster (2022), Raymarine Tridata with NMEA2000 (2022), new Vetus hull windows, and Autotherm diesel heating (2024), renewed waste water hoses, antifouling (2024), and a new service battery (2026). Onboard comfort and practical usability have been given considerable attention. Four additional floor hatches create approximately 400 liters of extra storage space, including room for items such as a folding bicycle, and there is preparation for a lithium service battery bank of up to approximately 600 Ah. The layout provides sleeping accommodations for 7 to 8 people, a bright saloon, a spacious aft cabin, and a well-ventilated interior with high-quality teak finishes. Combined with an extensive sail wardrobe and complete navigation and deck equipment, this results in an exceptionally complete and well-maintained example of the Southerly 105 Ketch.
