Arsenal de Cherbourg Freycinet – Characterful Residential and Recreational Vessel This Arsenal de Cherbourg Freycinet from 1950 is a former cargo ship that has been converted into a sailing houseboat. In 2005, the ship was shortened to a length of 29.30 meters, meeting the dimensions of the Freycinet format, suitable for many European inland waterways. With a width of 5.08 meters and a draft of 1.10 meters, this steel ship provides a stable and spacious sailing platform for both living and leisure cruising. Construction and Dimensions The hull is entirely made of steel, contributing to the ship's robustness. The air draft is 4.00 meters, allowing passage under most bridges on inland waterways. The headroom inside is 2.15 meters, creating a comfortable living space on board. The ship holds an International Certificate for Pleasure Craft (ICP) and comes with various official documents, including the European Community certificate, a measurement certificate, and a hull inspection report. Interior and Living Space The onboard living area features a salon of approximately 45 m², housing a semi-equipped kitchen. There is one main bedroom, along with a bathroom with shower and electric toilet. Central heating with oil and a wood stove provide warmth during colder days. Additionally, there is air conditioning for added comfort in the summer months. The water tank has a capacity of 1,000 liters, sufficient for extended stays on board. An additional room is located in front of the wheelhouse and is currently undergoing renovation. The former crew quarters are not yet furnished but offer potential for an extra bedroom and bathroom. The wheelhouse itself also requires refurbishment. Engine and Sailing Characteristics Propulsion is provided by a 1950 Baudouin DNP 6 diesel engine with 215 hp. This six-cylinder inboard engine is operational, allowing the ship to reach a cruising speed of approximately 8 km/h, with a maximum speed of around 15 km/h. The fuel tank has a capacity of 1,000 liters. Onboard, there are gauges such as a temperature gauge, fuel gauge, and oil pressure gauge. Electricity and Navigation The onboard electrical system operates on both 12V and 220V. There are two batteries and a battery charger. For navigation, the ship is equipped with a compass and a VHF radio. The wheelhouse offers ample visibility all around, enhancing safety during navigation. Exterior Equipment and Safety On deck, there are three anchors with chain attachments and a manual anchor windlass. The ship also includes a tarpaulin, fenders, lines, and a guardrail. A deck terrace provides outdoor living space. For safety, a lifebuoy is present, and an electric bilge pump ensures water drainage in case of leakage. Maintenance and Condition The ship was taken out of the water in 2024 for inspection and maintenance. In the same year, the antifouling was reapplied. Hull inspection and conformity checks are scheduled for September 2024. Some areas needing attention include exterior painting, radio equipment, and parts of the interior requiring renovation or finishing. Usage and Mooring The ship has been used on inland waterways as a houseboat and for recreational purposes. Please note: the current mooring location is not included in the sale.
