Description

The Albatross is a former home guard cutter of the MHV 20 class, as number 5 out of a total of 6 built from 1978 to 1982. They were contracted as new fast patrol boats built in Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic, initially known as "The white boats" before being repainted to the more common navy gray color. The ships were built at Ejvinds Plastic Dinghy and Boatyard, Rantzausminde. The MHV 20 class was designed to be a fast patrol and intervention vessel. With their relatively limited weight and shallow draft, they had very low operating costs. MHV 24 was previously named Patrioten until it was decommissioned from the Home Guard Navy in 2000, the name is now carried by number 816 of the MHV 800 class. Subsequently, the boat was acquired by a private owner who renamed the vessel to Albatrossen. The boat has been privately owned until 2021 when it was purchased by the current owner, who has reintroduced the vessel as a commercial vessel under the Danish Maritime Authority with Reg. No. OZYF. Since taking over, the current owner has carefully restored the boat to its original condition while also adding modern equipment as needed. The Albatross was originally built for a crew of 9 people with 5 bunks in the forward crew room and four in the aft, which also serves as the ship's galley and mess hall. In front of the forward crew room, there is a large toilet with a separate shower, which has been carefully restored with, among other things, a new electric toilet. In addition, a hull inspection has been carried out, shafts have been pulled and inspected, and new seals applied. The propellers have been polished, cooling pumps overhauled. The topsides have been painted, everything on deck has been painted. A new Garmin Plotter has been purchased, as well as a new EmTrak A200 AIS Class A. The ship has also received a new anchor winch. All safety equipment according to the Danish Maritime Authority requirements. The vessel is now registered as a commercial vessel and has been declared worthy of preservation by the Ship Preservation Fund. In recent years, the Albatross has been used for charter sailing, with permission to carry 12 passengers, and has also been used as a support vessel for diving operations in Denmark. The owner has now invested in a new vessel for diving operations and therefore wishes to sell the Albatross. A STCW certificate for Coastal Skipper is required to operate the vessel for commercial purposes.
