With the prospect of a new project, this rare, well-kept, and fully operational Danish motor Chalup, Svanen, is now offered for sale. Year built: 1939, Svendborg Shipyard, Denmark – originally as a pleasure craft Construction: Carvel planked larch on oak frames, continuous long keel (fully protecting propeller), teak laid deck Length overall (LOA): Originally 27.2 ft, extended aft in 1956 to 30 ft (updated tonnage certificate from 1956 included) Beam: 2.56 m Draft: 0.80 m Displacement: 4.75 t bare hull, approx. 6 t fully fitted Engine: Perkins 4.107M, 4-cyl, 2.7 L diesel, 49 hp, fresh-water cooled (installed 1956) Tanks: 60 L diesel, 60 L fresh water Shore power with dual battery chargers (15 A) Cockpit canopy: New 2018 Current owner since 2020. Maintained in excellent condition. Predictable and seakindly handling, easy for short-handed cruising, remarkably stable when heading into waves. Previously used for extended cruising – hence the practical galley, storage, upgraded electrics, and portable VHF. Very economical: despite weekly use for short trips, seasonal consumption around 100 L diesel. Ready for another 50 years on the water with minimal upkeep. Documentation & History Archive of 100+ photos including colourised originals from the 1940s and documentation from major refits (notably 1970s long-distance cruising conversion).
