Description

The Wellcraft Scarab from 1982 is an 11-meter long offshore powerboat, built by the renowned American shipyard Wellcraft and designed under the iconic Scarab line. Thanks to its deep V-hull, the boat performs excellently on open water, providing a stable and comfortable ride at higher speeds. This Scarab is internationally registered through the ICP (International Certificate of Pleasure Craft) and ready for new adventures. Dimensions and Construction Measuring 11 meters in length, 2.50 meters in width, and with a draft of 1 meter, the boat offers a generous platform for sporty sailing. The standing height inside is 1.70 meters. The hull was completely refitted between 2015 and 2018. During this thorough renovation, the old wood was replaced with marine plywood, and the interior was redesigned with new backrests, benches, and a modified engine compartment. Propulsion and Performance Powering the boat are two powerful Mercruiser 377 MAG DTS gasoline engines, each delivering 320 hp. These engines were installed in 2016, along with new Bravo One stern drives, propellers, transoms, and electronic steering. Each engine has approximately 280 running hours. The cruising speed is around 29 km/h, while the top speed is approximately 46 km/h. At a speed of 26 knots, the fuel consumption is about 40 liters per engine per hour. The fuel tank has a generous capacity of 750 liters, allowing for longer journeys without constant refueling. Electronics and Navigation The Scarab is up-to-date in terms of navigation and electronics. Onboard is a 2023 Simrad 12” integrated chartplotter, complemented by a depth sounder, fishfinder, log/speedometer, VHF radio, wind gauge, and a Lowrance 8 display. The electrical system includes an alternator, battery charger, inverter, shore power connection, and a voltmeter. There are four batteries onboard, with a total capacity of 540 Ah, divided between service and starter batteries. The onboard voltage is available in 12V, 110V, and 220V, providing flexibility in various situations. Interior and Comfort The interior is designed with comfort in mind. The boat offers sleeping space for four people (2+2) with an additional berth. Additionally, there is an electric Jabsco toilet installed in 2018, a shower, a Webasto refrigerator, and a two-burner stove on gel fuel. The water tank has a capacity of 100 liters. LED lighting and a 22” television enhance the living comfort. In 2024, the dashboard, interior walls, and cockpit were repainted, giving the whole interior a fresh look. Exterior Equipment Outside, the Scarab features a well-equipped cockpit with a bimini top, cockpit tent, covers, outdoor shower, cockpit table, exterior cushions, sprayhood, swim ladder, and a swim platform. The boat also includes an electric anchor windlass with a Delta anchor and 50 meters of calibrated chain. There is an eight-person life raft onboard, valid until 2025, as well as a lifebuoy and a self-draining cockpit. The cockpit is equipped with atmospheric LED lighting and underwater lights. Technical Upgrades and Maintenance Between 2015 and 2024, the boat has been continuously improved, both technically and cosmetically. In 2016, the new engines and drives were installed, followed by LED lighting, batteries, bilge pumps, and a 360° mast light in 2017. In 2018, an electric toilet was installed, and the boat received new portholes and a modified table. In 2021, a Simrad touchscreen plotter and a 3500W inverter were added, and in 2022, €4,500 worth of electronic upgrades were carried out, including a Simarine battery monitor and new wiring. In 2023, major engine maintenance was performed, and the hull was repainted, followed by the repainting of the dashboard and cockpit in 2024, along with further engine maintenance. All these works are documented and carried out by authorized specialists, including Mercruiser dealers. Other Features The boat weighs approximately 6,500 kg and features external steering with a single rudder. An electric bilge pump is present. The RINA certification is valid until 2030, and the logbook was renewed during the engine change, issued by the Manfredonia harbor office. Usage and Navigation Area The Wellcraft Scarab has mainly been used for day trips at sea. With its deep V-hull and powerful engines, it is ideal for sporty sailing on open water. Over the years, this classic-lined offshore powerboat has been equipped with numerous modern upgrades, making it not only a sight to behold but also providing comfort and reliability for speed and style enthusiasts at sea.
