They had bought the catamaran in winter 2006 from a couple who had sailed the boat in the North Sea and Wadden Sea. The owners had a refit done by a boatbuilder in 2000, renewing the hull, deck, and interior paint entirely, replacing the lashings and nets, and ordering a new sail wardrobe from UK Sailmakers. Prior to that, the ship was sailed by a teacher couple from Wismar on the Baltic Sea. The owner sailed the catamaran single-handed to Scotland. MOTU has proven itself in the Wadden Sea, on the Schlei, in the Danish South Sea (Baltic Sea), on Dutch canals, the Scheldt estuary, the English Channel, and the North Sea. The catamaran is not a "light wind racer" but achieves a good cruising speed of 10-11 knots in good half to broad reaching winds from 5 Bft. or stronger. A top speed of 16.3 knots was logged surfing down waves. Upwind angles of around 50 degrees are achievable with the boat. In moderate winds between 3-4 Bft., Motu reaches speeds between 5 and 7.5 knots depending on course and waves. The ship is very stable and forgiving, handling a good breeze well, remaining manageable. Under motor, a speed of approximately 7 knots, hull speed, is achieved. The outboard motor, mounted on a retractable nacelle, has an electric starter and a manual start facility. It can be rotated with its own tiller, allowing direct flow to the rudders. The large thrust propeller enables strong reverse thrust, useful for anchoring or maneuvering in tight spaces. Since 2011, we have sailed the catamaran on the Baltic Sea. In 2013, the boat was capsized by the storm "Christian" from the harbor trailer and then meticulously and professionally repaired at the BaltiCat shipyard by Steffan Hüttermann in Arnis. Since then, the ship has been regularly maintained, renewed, and supplemented. The water tank and hoses were cleaned/replaced by the yacht yard in Glückstadt before the takeover, the 2-burner Endress gas stove in the galley is new. All cushions were replaced, the folding hatch fabric and deck tent cover were renewed. We replaced the original boom with a Selden boom with a 2-line reefing system and raised it slightly to have more freedom of movement in the cockpit. Motu received a sprayhood and a new Plastimo roller furling system. The roller genoa was fitted with a UV protection strip. The standing rigging was renewed in 2025, the nets in 2023. The running rigging was partially replaced as needed. In summer 2024, the mast support broke. This was taken as an opportunity to renovate the entire foredeck, the mast support beam, and the two front crossbeams and replace the lashings. Now, Motu is once again up for sale.
