Description

Yukon is a 1930 Hajkutter design boat originally built at Hjorne and Jacobsen's shipyard in Frederikshavn, Denmark. It is known for its excellent seakeeping abilities, elegant lines, and sturdy construction. The boat was used for commercial fishing until the mid-1970s and was later purchased by a shipwright and mariner and underwent a major restoration over seven years. The restoration included a new engine, electrics, and plumbing, as well as a hull restoration at Ring Andersen shipyard in Denmark. The on-deck design was also redesigned, featuring subtly profiled deck houses for better visibility from the aft. The boat was further modified for sailing, including the addition of a single yard to the mainmast, davits for a RIB and solar panel, extra ballast, and reinforcing for the keel. Yukon has a spacious interior with a total of 12 berths, making it suitable for living aboard or long-distance charters. The interior is light and comfortable, with full headroom in most areas. The aft cabin is easily accessible and adds to the comfort of living aboard. The finish below deck consists of white painted shiplap planking and natural timber, primarily Danish oak and silver ash, with some Tasmanian influences. The boat also features a lovely saloon with a woodstove and seating for up to 10 people. The boat has been used for various purposes, including day trips, gourmet cruises, and ocean crossings, entertaining thousands of guests in Europe and Australia. It has sailed over 50,000 nautical miles since 2004, culminating in a circumnavigation completed in July 2023. In 2006, Yukon was awarded the Best Restored Vessel prize by the Wooden Ships Association of Denmark. The safety equipment on board includes inflatable life rafts, life rings, life vests, an EPIRB, fire extinguishers, a fire blanket, and a sprinkler system. The electronics include radar, GPS, weather fax, Inmarsat C, VHF DSC radios, AIS, and a satellite phone. The boat is equipped with a 240v AC switchboard, 24v DC system, and 12v DC system, all wired according to ship installation standards. The electrical system was designed and fitted by NJ Electrics in 2003. The boat is powered by a 125 HP naturally aspirated marine diesel engine, with a Bowman heat exchanger and PRM 750 3:1 Gear Box. It has a propeller shaft with a fixed 3-bladed Hundested Propeller and a hydraulic brake. The engine also drives the main bilge/fire pump and two alternators. The engine is housed in a soundproof and fireproof box in the aft cabin and chartroom area, protected by a fixed powder firefighting installation. This is just a summary of the boat's features.
