Everyone can bid until February 16, 2026. Comfortable and functional layout Inside, the Contest 31 offers a surprisingly spacious and practical layout. The headroom of 1.90 meters ensures a pleasant stay on board, even for extended periods. There are five fixed berths, divided between the salon and the forward cabin, making the ship suitable for families or small groups. The dining area is centrally located and provides ample seating, while the galley is equipped with a stove and refrigerator, ideal for multi-day trips. A manual toilet is present, with direct discharge to open water. The water tank has a capacity of 240 liters, and the holding tank accommodates 100 liters, contributing to comfort and autonomy during longer journeys. Although the boat does not have a built-in heating system, the interior is well insulated and provides shelter from the elements. Sailing performance and rigging The Contest 31 is equipped with an aluminum mast and a complete sail plan, consisting of a mainsail, genoa, jib, and storm jib. The genoa features a furling system, simplifying sailing in changing conditions. Lazy jacks and halyards at the mast make hoisting and lowering the sails efficient. The sails are in functional condition and suitable for both recreational and sporty use. Steering is done via a wheel in the cockpit, with a single rudder. The boat is easy to handle, even solo or with a small crew. The autopilot contributes to comfort during longer passages. The Contest 31 has proven to feel at home on both inland waters and at sea, with previous trips to destinations such as England, France, Norway, and even Canada. Engine and electrical installation The boat is equipped with a Yanmar 20GM inboard diesel engine from 2006, with a power of 20 hp. The engine has approximately 500 operating hours and is electrically started. With a cruising speed of 10 km/h and a maximum speed of 15 km/h, the engine provides sufficient power for harbor maneuvers and motor sailing. The fuel consumption is around 1.2 liters per hour, with a tank capacity of 80 liters. The electrical installation is extensive and includes shore power, a battery charger, alternator, inverter, voltmeter, and a solar panel. Two batteries supply the onboard network with power, with sufficient capacity for navigation, lighting, and communication equipment. The dual fuse panels ensure a clear and safe power distribution. Navigation and safety The navigation equipment is modern and functional, including AIS, GPS, depth sounder, log/speedometer, wind meter, compass, and VHF radio. Navigation is done via wifi, allowing the use of a tablet, smartphone, or laptop. The fixed microphone in the cabin and handheld microphone in the cockpit ensure good communication on the water. Navigation lights, deck light, and interior lighting are present. In terms of safety, the boat is equipped with a self-draining cockpit, lifebuoy with flare, manual bilge pump, and various life jackets. An electric anchor windlass with chain and line makes anchoring easy and safe. Exterior equipment and appearance The exterior equipment of the Contest 31 includes a sprayhood, cockpit tent, deck covers, cockpit cushions, swim ladder, fenders, and lines. The lifelines provide extra safety on deck. The boat regularly attracts attention in ports thanks to its classic lines and authentic appearance. The polyester hull is solidly built and reflects the quality of Dutch yacht building from the 1970s. Experience and possibilities This Contest 31 is a sailboat with a rich history and proven seaworthiness. The current owner has owned the boat since 2016 and has undertaken various trips with it, including to England and France. The previous owner sailed it to Canada and Norway. The boat is suitable for day trips, weekend getaways, and longer vacations, offering plenty of opportunities for adventurous sailors looking for a characterful vessel with potential. With its solid construction, functional equipment, and comfortable sailing characteristics, this Contest 31 is an attractive choice for sailing enthusiasts who appreciate classic style and practical usability.
