Sailing Performance and Sailing Experience The Defender 32 is known for its smooth sailing characteristics and is easy to handle, even solo. Thanks to the tiller steering and well-balanced sail plan, the vessel is responsive and agile, appealing to both novice and experienced sailors. The boat is equipped with an aluminum mast and features five sails, including a jib, genoa, mainsail, and spinnaker. The headsail is equipped with a Furlex furling system, facilitating reefing and sail changes. The current owner recently used the boat for a trip to South England and a journey through Zeeland. These experiences highlight the seaworthiness and comfort of the Defender 32 during longer voyages. The boat is suitable for offshore use, providing ample safety and stability for adventurous trips. Engine and Technology Under the hood lies a Yanmar 3GM30 inboard diesel engine with a power of 26 hp. This three-cylinder engine starts electrically and is equipped with essential gauges such as a fuel tank gauge, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, and tachometer. The fuel tank has a capacity of 90 liters, sufficient for longer distances under engine power. The electrical system has been completely renewed recently by a specialized company, enhancing the reliability of the onboard installations. The boat has two batteries, a battery charger, alternator, voltmeter, and shore power connection. For navigation and communication, the vessel is equipped with radar, autopilot, and VHF radio. The wind meter is operational, while other instruments have been replaced by a modern tablet-based system. Interior and Comfort The interior of the Defender 32 is beautifully crafted and exudes a warm, classic atmosphere. The layout is practical, providing sleeping space for four people in fixed berths, with the option for two additional berths. The salon features a dining area, comfortable mattresses, and a heater for warmth on colder days. The galley is equipped with a stove, oven, and refrigerator, making onboard stays pleasant during longer journeys. The manual toilet system is connected to a direct discharge to open water. The water tank has a capacity of 200 liters, sufficient for multi-day trips. The cockpit is self-draining and equipped with sturdy lifelines, enhancing deck safety. Equipment and Safety On deck, the Defender 32 is equipped with a teak deck, deck covers, fenders, and lines. For anchoring, two anchors are present, secured with chain and line. The safety equipment includes a lifebuoy, liferaft, and a manual bilge pump. This gear makes the boat suitable for serious offshore voyages. Opportunities and Potential Although the sails are older and the boat will need a fresh coat of antifouling in the spring, the Defender 32 provides a solid foundation for those seeking a characterful sailboat with potential. The combination of seaworthiness, comfort, and practical equipment makes this vessel appealing to sailors who enjoy longer trips or seek a classic yacht that can be further optimized to personal preferences. The Defender 32 is an invitation to adventure on the water. Whether it's cruising along the Dutch coast, crossing to England, or relaxing weekends on the IJsselmeer – this boat offers the space, equipment, and sailing characteristics to fully enjoy sailing.
