Marieholm IF 1968 - Classic long keel sailboat with seaworthy sailing characteristics The Marieholm IF is a classic sailboat originating from Sweden. This specific model, built in 1968 with hull number 187/68, is a representative of the well-known IF series, a polyester version of the traditional Nordic Folkeboat. The IF boat is renowned for its seaworthiness, stability, and elegant lines. Measuring 8 meters in length, 2 meters in width, and with a draft of 2 meters, this vessel is suitable for both inland waters and larger lakes. Construction and Hull Shape The hull is made of polyester and features a classic S-shaped form, contributing to its good sailing characteristics and course stability. The boat is equipped with a single rudder and is steered using a tiller in the open cockpit. The air draft is approximately 12 meters, allowing it to pass under most bridges on inland waterways. The headroom inside is 150 cm, typical for this type of classic yacht. Interior and Accommodation Inside, the Marieholm IF offers four fixed berths, divided between the cabin and the forepeak. The equipment includes mattresses, a manual toilet, a refrigerator, and a central heating system. These amenities make the boat suitable for short trips or weekend stays onboard. The interior space is functionally designed, focusing on the sailor's basic needs. Sail Equipment and Rigging The boat is equipped with an aluminum mast and features a sail plan consisting of a mainsail, jib, genoa, and spinnaker. The genoa is equipped with a reefing system, enhancing ease of sailing. The condition of the sails is described as fair. The rigging is suitable for sporty sailing and offers ample trimming possibilities, aligning with the IF boat's reputation as an agile and responsive sailboat. Propulsion Propulsion is provided by a 6 hp Yamaha outboard motor from 2001. This two-stroke engine with a long shaft and dual propeller is manually started and consumes approximately 3 liters of gasoline per hour. The fuel tank has a capacity of 25 liters. The motor is mounted on a bracket at the stern. The original engine compartment in the lazarette has been sealed with laminate. Electrical Facilities Onboard, there is an electrical system with a solar panel, a voltmeter, and one 80 Ah battery. These basic provisions support the lighting and other electrical systems onboard. An electric bilge pump is also present. Maintenance and Technical Status The boat was taken out of the water in the fall of 2023 for an antifouling treatment. During these works, early signs of osmosis were detected. The gelcoat was subsequently removed (milled off), and the hull has since been on land to dry. According to a yacht service company, the hull is now dry enough to be recoated with a gelcoat layer. The estimated cost for this treatment is approximately €3,000. For those with the appropriate knowledge and skills, it is possible to carry out these works independently. Equipment and Extras On deck, the boat is equipped with pulpit and pushpit, a sprayhood, and lifelines. There is one anchor onboard secured with a chain. History and Usage The current owner purchased the boat in 2001 in Warnemünde (Germany). Since then, it has mainly sailed on the IJsselmeer, Markermeer, and the Frisian lakes. The boat has not been used on the Wadden Sea. The name of the boat is "Sländan," which means "dragonfly" in Swedish. The owner describes the boat as a slender sailor that reaches its hull speed even in light winds. Thanks to the long keel and high ballast ratio, the boat is stable and maintains its course. Summary This 1968 Marieholm IF offers a solid foundation for enthusiasts of classic sailboats. With its long keel, traditional lines, and seaworthy characteristics, it presents an appealing project for DIY enthusiasts or sailors seeking a characterful vessel with potential. The boat is currently on land and ready for further hull finishing. The combination of a classic design, functional equipment, and rich history makes this boat an interesting option within the compact sailboat segment.
