Description

The Contest 33 is a sailboat that originates from the 1970s and is known for its robust construction and seaworthy characteristics. This specific model, built in 1972, is a polyester S-shaped hull measuring 10 meters in length, 3.15 meters in width, and with a draft of 1.60 meters. The air draft is 12 meters, making the boat suitable for both open waters and inland waterways with bridges. The headroom inside is 1.90 meters, providing a comfortable living space on board. Layout and Accommodation The interior of the Contest 33 is designed for comfortable stays on board. It offers two fixed berths and two additional berths, accommodating a crew of up to four people. The accommodation includes a dining area, a stove, a refrigerator, hot water, and an electric shower. The toilet is electric and discharges directly into open water. The water tank has a capacity of 400 liters, and there is a 20-liter holding tank for wastewater. Engine and Technical Equipment The boat is powered by a 2015 Lombardini inboard diesel engine with 27 hp distributed over three cylinders. The engine has approximately 2500 running hours and consumes an average of 2.2 liters of diesel per hour. The fuel tank has a capacity of 160 liters. The cruising speed is around 10 km/h, with a maximum speed of 12 km/h. The engine is equipped with gauges such as a fuel tank gauge, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, and tachometer. An electric bow thruster is installed for additional maneuverability. The electrical system includes a battery charger, alternator, inverter, and a solar panel. The onboard voltage is 12V and 220V. Navigation and Safety The Contest 33 is equipped with a wide range of navigation equipment, including AIS, depth sounder, GPS, chart plotter, compass, log/speedometer, VHF radio, and wind gauge. Safety features include a life raft, self-draining cockpit, and an electric bilge pump. Sail Equipment The sail plan consists of a mainsail and a roller genoa attached to an aluminum mast. The boat has a single mast. The sails and cushions are stored dry and will be reinstalled on board in May. Steering is done outside via a steering wheel, and the boat has a single rudder. Deck Equipment On deck, the boat features a teak deck, sprayhood, pulpit and pushpit, lifelines, swim platform, and swim ladder. There are two anchors with chain and a manual anchor windlass. Recently, new aft lockers, speakers, a gas bottle box, and a Vetus hydraulic steering system have been installed in the cockpit area. Maintenance and Condition The boat was last taken out of the water for maintenance in 2024. The antifouling was last applied in 2021, with a new layer scheduled for May 2024. The boat is currently on land and will be relaunched after the auction. There are no signs of osmosis detected. History and Usage The previous owner undertook long sea voyages with this boat, including a trip to Brazil. The current owner has used the boat sparingly, mainly sailing from the IJsselmeer to Kortgene via inland waterways. The boat has been used for holidays and weekend trips. Special Sailing Characteristics The Contest 33 is known for its stable sailing behavior, even in strong winds. This makes the boat suitable for both novice and experienced sailors who value a solid and predictable sailing experience. This 1972 Contest 33 combines classic lines with modern upgrades. With a recent engine, extensive navigation equipment, and a functional layout, this boat offers opportunities for both recreational sailing and longer journeys. The boat is ready to return to the water after the planned antifouling treatment in May 2024, providing a solid foundation for new adventures on the water.
