The Ocean 80 "Arrow of Ayr" is a seaworthy schooner with comfortable living space and functional equipment. The Ocean 80 "Arrow of Ayr" is a 24.21-meter long sailing schooner, built in 1995 by the renowned Aquastar shipyard in Guernsey. The design comes from the well-known yacht designer Doug Peterson, known for his seaworthy and performance-oriented designs. This two-master combines classic lines with a functional layout and is suitable for long sea voyages, charters, or comfortable living aboard. With a beam of 6.12 meters and a draft of 2.49 meters, the Ocean 80 provides a stable and spacious platform for both sailing and living aboard. The hull is made of polyester (fiberglass), contributing to a relatively low maintenance level and a long lifespan. The hull has a V-bottom, providing good sailing characteristics, especially in rough seas. Layout and accommodation The "Arrow of Ayr" features a spacious accommodation layout with a total of 13 berths spread over 6 to 7 cabins. There are four guest cabins, each with its own bathroom with toilet and shower. Additionally, there are three crew cabins, making this schooner suitable for professional use, such as crewed charter trips. The living spaces are air-conditioned, making the stay on board pleasant in warmer climates. The galley is equipped with a refrigerator, freezer, oven, microwave, and stove, allowing for extensive meal preparation. Hot water is available through an integrated system. The salon offers ample seating space and is suitable for relaxation or communal meals. With the presence of Starlink internet, there is access to a stable internet connection at sea, enhancing onboard comfort and functionality. Propulsion and technical equipment Propulsion is provided by a Ford Mermaid Manta diesel engine with a power of 170 hp. The engine is electrically started and has only 10 running hours since the last overhaul or replacement. The cruising speed is approximately 11 km/h, with a top speed of about 16 km/h. The fuel tank has a capacity of 2,300 liters, providing a significant range. For power supply, the "Arrow of Ayr" is equipped with a 21 kW Phasor generator, six batteries, a battery charger, alternator, inverter, and shore power connection. The electrical system operates on 110V, 220V, and 24V, offering flexibility in using various devices and systems on board. Sail plan and rigging The schooner is equipped with two aluminum masts and a sail plan consisting of four sails: a mainsail, jib, genoa, and an additional headsail. The headsail features a furling system, facilitating reefing and hoisting. The total sail area is approximately 250 m² (2,687 ft²), providing good sailing characteristics, even in lighter winds. Steering is done via a tiller, with the helm position located outside on the aft deck. The rudder is single-ended. The boat is equipped with several electric winches, two of which need switch replacements. The anchor windlass is also electrically operated, with two anchors attached to chains. The windlass switch and anchor locker seal need replacement. Navigation and safety The onboard navigation equipment is extensive and includes an autopilot, AIS, GPS, chartplotter, depth sounder, and compass. This equipment enables safe and efficient navigation, even on the open sea. In terms of safety, the "Arrow of Ayr" is equipped with a life raft, lifebuoy, electric bilge pump, and a self-draining cockpit. Additional bilge pumps are recommended for increased safety. The boat complies with MCA standards (Maritime and Coastguard Agency), which is relevant for professional use or charter activities under the British flag. Exterior equipment and dinghy The deck features a bimini and sprayhood for sun and rain protection. Outside, there are comfortable seat cushions, a cockpit table, pulpit and pushpit seats, fenders and lines, a swim ladder, and a swim platform. The lifelines contribute to deck safety. A 3.8-meter dinghy, two years old, is included. It is equipped with a Mariner outboard motor, 30 hp model, allowing for easy disembarkation at anchor or short trips to shore. Maintenance and condition The "Arrow of Ayr" was last hauled out of the water in 2023 for maintenance, including an antifouling treatment. There are some known areas of attention, such as electrical upgrades, replacement of a hatch in a guest cabin, paint and varnish damage to the stern, and scratches on the starboard side. Some parts of the electrical system require attention, like switches for the electric winches and anchor windlass. No signs of osmosis have been detected. The boat is registered under the British flag with registration number 189938. VAT has not been paid, which may be relevant for import or sale within the EU. Use and cruising area The current owner has used the boat for pleasure cruising at sea. The sailing characteristics are positively experienced, especially during trips in the Caribbean, such as around Antigua. The boat is designed for ocean voyages and offers sufficient comfort and autonomy for longer stays aboard. Conclusion The Ocean 80 "Arrow of Ayr" is a spacious and functional sailing schooner with a classic look and a practical layout. With a combination of comfortable living spaces, extensive technical equipment, and seaworthy characteristics, this yacht is suitable for long voyages, charters, or as a floating residence. Although there are some technical and cosmetic areas of attention, the vessel provides a solid foundation for further personalization or professional use. The British regist
