Gulet Hayri Kutlu 1988 - wooden two-master with ocean experience and spacious accommodation The Gulet Hayri Kutlu, built in 1988, is a traditional wooden sailing ship, crafted at the Hayri Kutlu shipyard in Turkey. Designed for long-distance navigation, it combines classic construction with modern equipment. With a length of 19.15 meters and a width of 5.70 meters, this Gulet is equipped with a sturdy V-shaped hull and a draft of 2.70 meters, contributing to stability at sea. Construction and design The ship's hull is made of wood, and over the years, various structural adjustments have been made. The original pine planking has been replaced by tali-teak from Guinea-Bissau, with a thickness of 4 to 6 cm, significantly improving the ship's durability. The hull is equipped with a hydraulic system that controls the steering wheel in the wheelhouse, the steering wheel in the cockpit, both autopilots, and the rudder. The interior height of 2.18 meters provides a comfortable living space on board. Interior and accommodation The Gulet features three double cabins, each with its own bathroom, accommodating six people. Additionally, there are two extra berths available. The wheelhouse interior includes a dining area, a refrigerator, an ice machine, and the kitchen is equipped with two gas burners with electromagnetic valves, an extractor hood, a Panasonic stainless steel oven with four functions, a dishwasher, a refrigerator, and a freezer. The cabins have new mattresses and bedding. There is hot water available under two pressure groups. The three new electric Nuova Rade toilets are connected to a 940-liter black water tank, contributing to environmentally friendly use. The salon is equipped with a Samsung 49” LED TV, connected to a Yamaha home theater 7.1 amplifier with seven speakers and a subwoofer for music enthusiasts, and a DVD player. The bow serves as sail storage and a workshop and is equipped with a Bosch washer and dryer, an Abac air compressor, a Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner, access to the chain locker, and an exterior exit. The water tank has a capacity of 972 liters, sufficient for long stays on board. Additionally, there is a Schenker Modular 100 watermaker producing 100 liters per hour. The absence of heating makes the ship particularly suitable for moderate to warm climates. Propulsion and technical equipment The gulet is powered by a General Motors Detroit 6-71 diesel engine with 174 hp. This six-cylinder inboard engine with electric start consumes approximately 12 liters per hour. The Allison gearbox is connected to a 70 mm shaft and a JProp four-blade 36” propeller with adjustable pitch. The tank has a capacity of 2,000 liters. The engine is operational and recently overhauled. The cruising speed is around 7 knots, with a maximum speed of [fill in] knots at 1800 rpm. Various measuring instruments are on board, including a fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, thermometer, and tachometer. For better maneuverability, the ship is equipped with a hydraulic bow thruster. Electrical installation and power supply The electrical system is protected by a Victron isolation transformer and managed by two Victron Quattro 24/5000/120 inverters, two Mastervolt 150 Ah alternators, and eight 345 W/24 V solar panels, providing up to 115 Ah. There are 16 batteries with a total capacity of 2080 Ah at 24 V. The ship is also equipped with two additional 12 V and 24 V chargers. A new Ouma Fawde generator (model OM10CYZ) with a capacity of 12 kW completes the electrical supply. Navigation and communication The Furuno navigation equipment is suitable for offshore and transoceanic navigation. This includes AIS, two autopilots, a depth sounder, a fishfinder, an Interphase forward sonar, three GPS units, a chartplotter, two compasses, a log/speedometer, an anemometer, a digital radar, an ultrasonic wind vane, and other electronics. The radio communication equipment is professional: a Sailor VHF, a Sailor DSC VHF, a Sealink Navtex with four frequencies, a DSC HF/MF SSB AM, and an Icom HF/MF antenna. The onboard electrical system operates at 12 V, 24 V, and 220 V. Sail equipment The Gulet has two steel masts and a sail area with seven sails: five on the wind totaling 192 m², an ISTEC parasailor of 100 m², and a reserve genoa of 73 m² (mizzen). It is also equipped with a mainsail, a spinnaker, and the ISTEC parasailor. The headsails genoa, jib, and staysail have furling systems, while the mainsail and mizzen are fully battened sails on Harken tracks. Four winches on the deck manage the jib and mainsail, six winches (four electric in the cockpit) operate the headsails. The sails have been recently renewed. This extensive sail plan allows the ship to adapt to different wind conditions, enhancing safety and comfort during long voyages. Deck equipment and dinghy On the deck, at the bow, there are stainless steel anchors on a rail with a tilting anchor roller: an 80 kg anchor with 13 mm DIN766 chain and a 70 kg anchor on cable. These are operated by a hydraulic Baitra Data DZC1701H anchor windlass with counter and remote control, and there is a high-pressure seawater group for chain cleaning. For added comfort and convenience, there is a bimini, davits, deck covers, fenders, ropes, a 1.05-meter railing, and a swim ladder. The dinghy is a semi-rigid with an aluminum bottom from the Xiangdu brand, measuring 3.80 meters in length and 2.14 meters in width. The outboard motor is a Parsun 15 hp 2-stroke. A foldable 2x2 meter aluminum and teak gangway is located at the stern. Additionally, there are four deck lights, a rotating spotlight on the mizzen, and a Sterwins high-pressure cleaner.
