Lemsteraak in Cabin Layout The Marendorp is a 13-meter Lemsteraak that has been completely renovated in the past 5 years. It is a sturdy and graceful sailing ship, built in 1972. The ship has a luxurious appearance. The large cockpit is beautifully crafted with woodcarvings and the deck is laid with teak wood. The cabin includes a galley, large seating area, toilet, and modern navigation equipment. The ship is 4.75 meters wide, has a draft of 90 centimeters, weighs 21 tons, and has a sail area of 120 m2. The Marendorp belongs to the VA class in the Netherlands and has sail number VA 63. The Marendorp was built following the same graceful lines as the Royal yacht "De Groene Draeck". In the seventies, four Lemsteraken of this design were built at the De Jong shipyard in Durgerdam. Although the Marendorp has always been used as a family ship, it is also considered one of the pioneers of modern competitive sailing in this class on the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea. The design of the Lemsteraak is based on the traditional Dutch flat-bottomed boat, which was used as a fishing boat at the beginning of this century. With the help of leeboards instead of a keel, these boats could sail well on the shallow waters of the Zuiderzee. The fishermen used the large Lemsteraken to transport eels to London. Nowadays, the ships are used as luxurious sailing yachts and rebuilt to modern standards. The renovation includes: renewal of cockpit, new navigation 2024, replacement of electronic system 2020/2024 including isolation transformer, interior lining 2021, new mast and rigging 2023, jib boom 2023, boom 2023, covers 2021, paintwork 2025. The modern Steyr diesel engine was installed in 2012.
