With a clearance height of about 1.20 meters, it is also suitable for routes with low bridges, broadening its navigational range in the Netherlands and surrounding countries. Rechlin cabin motorboat now in the online auction. Everyone can bid until April 20, 2026. History and rarity: a Rechlin from the first series This cabin boat is not just a classic, but a piece of watersport history. It is the first type (at that time still unnamed) built at the VEB Rechlin shipyard, designed by Hans Böttcher. According to available information, only 41 mahogany models were produced between 1956-1957. The boat was first presented at the Leipzig Business Fair in 1956, adding to its appeal for enthusiasts of historical motorboats and classic German shipyard quality. This specific boat bears hull number 22, emphasizing its origin and authenticity. Documentation includes information about the construction site and a motor document. Hull, construction, and appearance: mahogany and V-bottom The hull is crafted from wood, boasting the warm and timeless appeal that makes mahogany boats so beloved. The V-bottom contributes to stable navigation and a comfortable ride in varying conditions on inland waters. The silhouette is classic: a cabin motorboat with elegant lines that evoke the 1950s ambiance through its woodwork and proportions. The boat is also designed practically for relaxed day trips, featuring outside steering wheel control for optimal connection with the water and surroundings while cruising. Restoration and recent work In 2022-2023, the boat underwent thorough renovations focusing on construction and woodwork. The underside was treated, with seams laminated with mahogany and bonded using the West System, a renowned method in the wooden boat world for durable connections and sealing. Additionally, the foredeck and aft deck were replaced using mahogany and American genenhout. In 2025, the boat was taken out of the water for maintenance, including applying antifouling. Engine and performance: Mitsubishi diesel inboard (2021) A significant advantage is the modern inboard diesel engine: a 2021 Mitsubishi L3E/CM 3.27 with 27 hp and three cylinders, electrically started. This combination suits the boat's character well: cruising quietly at around 6 km/h, yet with enough power to move swiftly when needed, reaching a top speed of approximately 18 km/h. The boat features a flexible gearbox and a water-lubricated propeller shaft with a 3-blade propeller (14”/12”), ensuring smooth transmission and a pleasant sailing experience. The 50-liter diesel tank includes a tank gauge with a sensor for easy fuel level monitoring. Steering, comfort, and onboard equipment Steering is done with a wheel from the outside position. Additionally, there is an electric toilet with direct discharge to open water. Onboard, there is 12V electricity available, with a dynamo, voltmeter, and two batteries: one for starting and one for lighting and appliances. For added safety and convenience, an electric bilge pump is installed. For navigation and orientation, the boat is equipped with a depth sounder and fishfinder, useful not only for navigating shallow areas but also appealing to recreational fishing enthusiasts. Outside, practical amenities include a canopy, cockpit table, outdoor cushions, fenders and lines, and a flag holder. Cushions are also present in both the cabin and cockpit, inviting long days on the water with comfortable seating and lounging. Port and starboard lighting is available, suitable for twilight sailing or returning to port. Sailing experience and use: day trips, leisure cruising, and attention on the water This Rechlin has been used on inland waters for day trips and leisure cruising. Its size makes docking straightforward, while its classic appearance ensures attention in the harbor or at the dock. It is a boat for enthusiasts who value not only sailing but also style, history, and the feeling of a true classic wooden motorboat. Lastly, an old trailer is included for moving the boat into a shed (not for use on public roads). This addresses the practical aspect of storage and transportation. This Rechlin cabin motorboat combines a rare origin with a modern diesel installation and an appearance rarely seen today.
