Woonboot 2025 now available in online auction. Anyone can bid until July 6, 2026. Characterful houseboat with history This houseboat is a steel Dutch barge with a past that you can feel as soon as you step on board. Built in 1947 in the Netherlands as a former Shell oil tanker, it later found a second life as a floating home. Over the years, its character has only grown richer: a vessel with a rugged, industrial appearance, yet with the comfort you seek when truly wanting to live on the water. Through Boatauction, it now has the chance to sail on to a new owner who wishes to continue its story. With a length of approximately 20.25 meters and a width of 3.67 meters, the boat offers an impressively spacious platform, both inside and outside. Thanks to a draft of about 1.00 meter, it is suitable for many inland waters, while its air draft of around 3.26 meters makes it usable on routes where bridge heights are a consideration. The steel hull and flat bottom reflect its origins as a working vessel and provide it with a solid, stable position, making it pleasant for those seeking a houseboat that truly feels like home. Woonboot 2025 now available in online auction. Anyone can bid until July 6, 2026. What makes its history so special? It began its life in commercial shipping and was later converted into a houseboat by a British couple. With those owners, the houseboat traveled extensively and lived intensely for many years, giving it an atmosphere that you won't find in any brochure. In 2023, it was taken over within the family with the dream of living aboard, but due to circumstances, that dream was far too short-lived. Now the boat is being carefully passed on so that it can once again become a place where dreams come true: living peacefully at the quay, taking longer journeys or a combination of both. How does it sail and maneuver? The boat is equipped with a Bedford 300 S diesel inboard engine. It has six cylinders and delivers 73 kW, which equates to about 99 hp. Combined with a propeller shaft and a three-blade propeller, this is well-suited for a displacement hull like this Dutch barge. Its cruising speed is around 8 kilometers per hour and it can reach up to approximately 10 kilometers per hour, perfect for comfortable sailing on canals and rivers. For docking and turning in tight harbors, there is an electric bow thruster available, making maneuvering noticeably easier. What about power onboard and living independently? Those searching for houseboats for sale often seek autonomy as well. It is equipped for this with an electrical system operating at 12V, 24V, and 220V. Onboard are four AGM house batteries totaling 720 Ah, plus a separate starting battery. Energy management is supported by Victron equipment including a 3 kW inverter and battery monitor so you can keep track of consumption and charging status. Charging can be done via shore power, through the alternator while sailing, or via solar panels. Additionally, there is a Hyundai generator rated at 6 kW, handy when you want to stay without shore connection for an extended period while still using household appliances. Is it comfortably furnished for real onboard living? This houseboat is designed as a complete living space. It features a dining area and kitchen equipped with refrigerator, freezer, stove, oven, and microwave. Hot water is available and heating is provided by a stove which contributes to a homely atmosphere during cooler months. There is also an onboard shower and fixed sleeping spaces for two people making it particularly suitable for couples or solo living with room to host guests. With a water tank of approximately 500 liters and a diesel tank of about 500 liters, there’s also an excellent base for longer stays. What navigation and safety equipment is present? For those who not only want to live but also want to sail, the onboard equipment is an important advantage. It has modern navigation equipment such as GPS, chart plotter, AIS, VHF radio, depth sounder and compass which make it suitable for inland waters while providing extra visibility on busier routes. Outside are fenders and lines present as well as a swim ladder. For safety purposes there are among other things life rings and liferafts available along with an electric bilge pump. The boat was taken out of the water in 2024 during which antifouling was applied that same year. Documentation is available including an important note that the CVO inspection expired in December. Those looking for a steel houseboat or Dutch barge houseboat or spacious motorized houseboat with bow thruster will find in her a combination of history, livability and equipment that invites planning ahead. She awaits through Boatauction someone who will not only buy her but also let her live again.
