Chris Craft Catalina 35 DC – Spacious and robust motorboat with twin diesel engines The Chris Craft Catalina 35 DC is an American-made motor yacht, built in 1985 by the renowned shipyard Chris Craft. This model is known for its spacious layout, stable sailing characteristics, and robust polyester hull. With a length of 10.69 meters and a width of 3.99 meters, this boat offers ample space for comfortable stays on board, both during day trips and longer vacations on the water. Dimensions and construction The hull of the Catalina 35 DC is made of polyester and features a V-bottom, contributing to a stable position in the water. The draft is 90 cm, making the boat suitable for various sailing areas, including inland waters, lakes, rivers, and even coastal waters. The air draft is 3.75 meters, allowing the boat to pass under many bridges on Dutch waterways. Inside, there is a headroom of 1.90 meters, providing a comfortable living space. Engine and performance The boat is equipped with two Perkins 6-cylinder diesel engines, each with 135 hp. These inboard engines are electrically started and function properly. The engines were installed in England, unlike the original gasoline engines that came standard with this model. The fuel consumption is around 5 liters per engine per hour, resulting in a relatively efficient consumption for a boat of this size. The fuel tanks have a total capacity of 668 liters, including an additional stainless steel tank added to increase the range. The cruising speed is around 15 km/h, with a maximum speed of approximately 22 km/h. Interior and accommodation The Chris Craft Catalina 35 DC offers sleeping space for four people in fixed beds. The interior is equipped with various amenities to make the stay on board pleasant. There is a dining area, a kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer, as well as a hot water system. The boat features an electric toilet system with direct discharge to open water and a 90-liter holding tank. For comfort in colder months, there is hot air heating available. Electrical installation and navigation The electrical system consists of two 230 Ah batteries, a battery charger, alternator, inverter, and shore power connection. The onboard voltage is 12V and 220V. Additionally, there is a Whisper generator with a capacity of 10 kVA. Navigation equipment includes a depth sounder, compass, and log/speedometer. The boat is equipped with various gauges such as a fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, and tachometer. Equipment and safety On deck, the boat is equipped with a swim platform, swim ladder, cockpit tent, exterior deck covers, cockpit table, exterior deck cushions, fenders, and lines. The guardrail contributes to safety on deck. An anchor with line is available for anchoring. The cockpit is self-draining, and safety equipment such as lifebuoys, fire extinguishers, and distress signals are present. An electric bilge pump ensures water drainage in case of leakage. Maintenance and condition The boat was last out of the water for maintenance in 2024 and received a new antifouling coating. There are some points to note, including the exterior paintwork, a defective satellite dish, and electrical systems that need to be checked. According to the owner, these defects do not affect the functional sailing characteristics of the ship. History and usage The current owner has owned the boat for three years. The boat was originally built in the United States, then transported to England for the installation of the diesel engines, and subsequently sold to an owner in Germany. The vessel then ended up in the Netherlands. The boat has been used for recreational sailing on inland waters, canals, lakes, rivers, and even at sea. The owner used the boat for day trips, weekends away, and vacations. Additional information The boat is registered with the RDW, and VAT has been paid. Documentation is available in the form of folders with descriptions of the boat, engines, and parts. Everything on board during the viewing day will be included in the sale. There is no dinghy or trailer included. The onboard VHF radio will be deactivated upon sale; the buyer must arrange a new registration through the Agentschap Telecom. Conclusion The Chris Craft Catalina 35 DC is a spacious and functional motor yacht with an interesting history and a solid foundation for those looking for a classic ship with great potential. With twin diesel engines, ample accommodation, and extensive equipment, this vessel is suitable for various sailing areas and purposes.
