Dufour 29 Sailboat – Classic Design with Functional Equipment The Dufour 29 is a sailboat originating from France, designed by the renowned yacht designer Michel Dufour and built at the Dufour Yachts shipyard in La Rochelle. This specific model, with hull number 374, was constructed in 1980 and has since navigated various inland waters and lakes in the Netherlands. The vessel is designed for both inland and coastal waters (CE category 2), making it suitable for diverse sailing areas. Dimensions and Hull Shape Measuring 8.95 meters in length, 2.96 meters in width, and with a draft of 1.35 meters, the Dufour 29 offers a good balance between stability and accessibility in shallower waters. The hull is made of polyester and features a round bilge shape, contributing to its sailing characteristics under different conditions. With a clearance height of 12.5 meters, it can pass under most fixed bridges in the Netherlands. Interior and Layout The interior of the Dufour 29 is classically designed with mahogany paneling, creating a warm and traditional ambiance. The standing height inside is 1.86 meters, providing ample space for most occupants. The layout consists of two separate cabins with a total of four fixed berths. Between the cabins, there is a manual toilet with washing facilities and additional storage space. The galley is equipped with a 2-burner gas stove (gas connection renewed in 2025), a spacious cool box with Dometic compressor unit (replaced in 2000), and various storage options for kitchen utensils and provisions. The water tank has a capacity of 100 liters. The navigation area features a chart table and sufficient space for storing charts and navigation instruments. Sail and Deck Equipment The Dufour 29 is rigged with an aluminum mast and has two sails: a mainsail and a genoa. The genoa is equipped with a Furlex furling system, facilitating reefing and rolling. The deck equipment includes a sprayhood, cockpit tent, pulpit and pushpit seats, fenders, lines, lifelines, and a swim ladder. An additional detachable swim ladder is included. The anchor is secured with chain and line; an anchor windlass is not present. Navigation and Electronics The vessel is equipped with an autopilot, depth sounder, GPS, compass, and a VHF radio (M-tech). The electrical system comprises a 12V and 220V system, powered by two batteries with a total capacity of 185 Ah. The alternator charges both the starter battery and the house battery via a diode bridge. Shore power connection is available, along with an inverter and voltmeter. Engine and Technology The Dufour 29 is powered by a Volvo Penta MD7A inboard diesel engine with a 13 hp output, distributed over two cylinders. The engine is electrically started and has recorded 3295 running hours. The fuel tank has a capacity of 50 liters, with an average consumption of around 1.5 liters per hour. The cruising speed is approximately 6 km/h, with a maximum speed of 7.4 km/h. Spare parts such as impeller, fuel filter, oil filter, and V-belt are included. Maintenance and Documentation The hull was stripped and treated with a two-component paint layer in 2010. The underwater hull receives an annual application of self-polishing black antifouling. The last treatment and maintenance out of the water are scheduled for 2025. The 12V house battery was replaced in 2025. Documentation including manuals for the engine, VHF radio, navigation equipment, and radio are available, along with a photocopy of the engine instruction book. Additional Equipment and Safety Extra equipment includes a mosquito net for the entrance and fore hatch, a sun awning (hoisted with the halyard line), a bosun's chair for the mast, a binoculars with built-in compass, life jackets for children and adults, a self-righting light buoy, a spare jerry can with 5 liters of diesel, six fenders, a power cable with euro connectors, four mooring lines, and a vacuum pump for the annual oil change. The vessel is equipped with a lifebuoy, a liferaft (certification expired in 2019), a self-draining cockpit, and a manual bilge pump. Summary The Dufour 29 is a sailboat with functional equipment and a classic appearance. Its dimensions, sail plan, and equipment make it suitable for both day trips and multi-day excursions on inland and coastal waters. The combination of practical amenities, a proven design, and a clear layout makes this vessel appealing to sailors seeking a sturdy yacht with character.
