“Sunrise” is a non‑smoking Elan 31/33 from 1987, lying in Sønderborg. I have owned her since 2016 but have sailed too little. The boat has never been raced, so hull and rig are unstressed. An integrated bathing platform extends the hull from 31 ft to 33 ft, providing more comfort and the feel of a larger boat. Engine and sailing In 2013 the boat was fitted with a fresh‑water‑cooled Volvo Penta D1‑30F (approx. 750 hours). At the same time the shaft and three‑bladed folding propeller were replaced. Engine mounts were renewed in 2019, the exhaust elbow and coolant in 2024, the thermostat cleaned in 2024, and a new seacock fitted in 2025. The engine is serviced annually and has its own start battery. A yard‑fitted torpedo keel from 2010 increases draught from 1.70 m to 1.85 m, giving noticeably better stability and windward performance with less heel. Rig and sails The sail wardrobe includes a Quantum mainsail (approx. 2016) in very good condition, an older spare main, a genoa with new UV strip (2024), a larger genoa (requires attention), and a nearly unused spinnaker. A lazy‑pack makes handling the mainsail easy. The standing rigging (upper and lower shrouds and turnbuckles) was replaced in 2019, the main halyard is new in 2025. The foresail halyard was accidentally pulled out of the mast; I currently use the spinnaker halyard and will re‑thread it when the mast comes down. Deck and cockpit The cockpit has a sprayhood in good condition and a sprayhood extension, giving shelter without closing the cockpit. There is an integrated bathing platform with shower. Guard‑rail wires were renewed in 2023. Equipment includes an Autohelm autopilot (2021), Raymarine depth sounder and Chartmaster plotter, a safety net (removable), four cockpit cushions, anchor with chain and rope, and a holding tank. Interior and comfort The boat has a surprisingly modern layout for its age. The bright saloon has grey upholstery from 2019 and ample storage. There are two separate cabins (aft and fore) plus extra berths in the saloon. The galley has a refrigerator with small freezer, sink, two‑burner stove with oven (gas) and good stowage. The heads compartment is roomy; the pump was replaced in 2023 and there is a shower with automatic drain. Two large freshwater tanks supply the boat. Taps, water pump and hoses were replaced in 2023. A hot‑water tank has been removed due to a defect – plumbing is ready and a new tank can be included. An Eberspächer diesel heater is installed but currently not working. Electrical system Two house batteries from 2022 provide enough power for a night at anchor and sailing the next day; the start battery is separate. Shore power can be connected via the anchor locker. Safety and extras Three self‑inflating lifejackets are included; non‑inflatable children’s vests are available by agreement. There is a life raft on board (not serviced) and a VHF radio with mast‑mounted antenna. Points to note – reflected in the price Wind instrument not working; likely a damaged wind sensor at masthead (replacement approx. 4 000 DKK). Speed log reads 0; a new paddle wheel is supplied but not fitted. Masthead light not working; probably a break between the battery and deck socket – I use a portable lamp when anchored. Foresail halyard needs to be re‑threaded; currently using the spinnaker halyard. These issues are why the price has been set accordingly. Once addressed, the boat could command a higher price. Reason for selling “Sunrise” has been a wonderful family boat, combining good sailing performance with space for four adults or a family, yet still easy to handle. However, I am not using her enough.
