The Smuiger is new in the showcase. Smuiger? Yep, Frisian for 'braggart', a showy type, a blabbermouth in short. The name is likely derived from the beautiful Frisian verb Smûge and the adjective Smûk. And you can certainly brag with the 'Smuiger'! It is one of the most beautiful and well-maintained sea sailing boats I have ever seen. The 'Smuiger', a Liamer zeilschouw in optimal form measuring 8.50 meters, was designed by Martin Bekebrede, the renowned ship designer known for famous boat types such as the Noordkaper. Even the sailing clipper 'Verwisseling' from scheepsmakelaardij Friesland was designed by him and partially built during a time when Martin was still a hippie with long hair at the beginning of his long design career. In short, it’s a stunning vessel that is also packed with new technology and fully equipped for up to 2 boats! Nothing is missing, and everything has been considered; new solar panels that can be removed with magnets for self-sufficiency, you name it... it’s all there. The woodwork is in top condition, finished with no less than 10 top layers and covered with tarps, including the rudder. The rigging is also noteworthy. It’s clear that the boat is well-rigged with a beautiful sail wardrobe from Molenaar, bronze and brass winches from Strikwerda among others. To further enhance its sailing characteristics, the boat is completely balanced with lead ballast. Running and standing rigging as good as new, 2 helm sticks, side keels that look like they just came back from the shipwright's workshop, etc. Under the hood lies the original indestructible Bukh engine surrounded by all new Victron technology. The engine looks as if it has just been installed with its original red color still shining like it did in its early days. Starts and runs perfectly. It’s also one of those rare engines that keeps running even upside down! One of the few engines that never break down if well maintained like this specimen. The interior is cozy and comfortable, suitable for longer stays on board even when it’s cold, wet, and windy outside. Bekebrede has succeeded in designing a practical layout that combines atmosphere and comfort perfectly. Top-notch! At the front are 2 berths of at least 2 meters where you can lie down both lengthwise and widthwise. Most inventory remains on board, so you can step on board right away and sail this summer. Still not convinced? Come see for yourself. Contact scheepsmakelaardij Friesland to make an appointment to climb aboard. Now or never!
