Verl 900 - Polyester sailboat with functional equipment and practical layout The Verl 900 is a sailboat of British origin, designed by the renowned yacht designer Robert Clark. This specific model, built in 1979, is a polyester round-bilge sailboat with a length of 9.22 meters and a beam of 2.92 meters. With a draft of 1.70 meters and an air draft of 11 meters, the vessel is suitable for both inland and coastal waters. The hull is designed with an encapsulated keel and a spade rudder, contributing to its course stability and sailing performance. The boat is IPC registered under number 108983-A. Construction and design The hull and deck are made of polyester, a material known for its durability and low-maintenance properties. The hull shape is round-bilge, ensuring a comfortable ride at sea. Steering is done through a tiller in the cockpit. The boat features a single aluminum mast and is equipped with four sails, including a mainsail, genoa, and gennaker. The headsail is equipped with a furling system, simplifying reefing and hoisting. Interior and accommodation Inside, the Verl 900 offers a headroom of 1.70 meters. The layout is practical with a dining area, galley, and a wet room. The galley includes a two-burner gas stove with oven, sink, refrigerator, freezer, and hot water supply. The wet room features an electric toilet that can discharge into a 60-liter holding tank or directly into the surface water. The water tank has a capacity of 40 liters. There are two fixed berths and two additional berths available, making the boat suitable for short vacations with a small group. Mattresses are provided, and the interior space has updated floor and ceiling coverings. Engine and technology The boat is powered by a two-cylinder Volvo Penta inboard diesel engine with a power output of 16 hp. The engine is electrically started and operational. Fuel consumption is around 1 liter per hour, with a 60-liter diesel tank. The electrical system is comprehensive, consisting of three batteries, a battery charger, alternator, inverter, shore power connection, and a solar panel. The onboard voltage is 12V and 220V. Navigation and electronics The navigation equipment is modern and includes an autopilot (Raymarine EV-100, 2022), depth sounder, GPS, chartplotter, compass, log/speedometer, and wind gauge. The boat is equipped with an NMEA2000 network, ensuring efficient communication between the various electronic systems. A multifunction display (Raymarine eS78) and an i70s instrument (2023) are also present. Equipment and extras On deck, the boat is equipped with a sprayhood (cleaned and re-impregnated in 2024), cockpit table, pulpit and pushpit seats, lifelines, and a swim ladder. A lazy bag (2024) and a cover for the tiller are included. The anchor is attached with chain and line. The cockpit is self-draining, and an electric bilge pump is installed. The boat comes with various extras, including a specially designed control panel, a new mountain loop (2024), and a load current distributor (2022). Maintenance and history The current owner acquired the boat in 2017 and has since carried out various works. The electrical system has been completely renewed, including wiring and switch panel. The windows, including the skylight, have been replaced. The galley and wet room have been rebuilt. The standing rigging was replaced in 2022, and the tanks for water, fuel, and wastewater have been renewed. The last antifouling treatment was done in 2022, and the boat was out of the water in 2024 for inspection and maintenance. Suitability and use The boat has mainly been used on inland waters and for vacations. Thanks to its robust construction and design for the North Sea, the Verl 900 is also suitable for heavier conditions. The combination of practical equipment, modern navigation instruments, and a functional layout makes this boat suitable for sailors looking for a classic design with modern upgrades.
