Westerly Centaur now available in online auction. Everyone can bid until October 19, 2026. Westerly Centaur for adventurous coastal voyages What kind of sailing boat is the Westerly Centaur? This 1975 Westerly Centaur is a classic cabin cruiser with a length of 8.56 meters, a beam of 2.54 meters, and a draft of 1.10 meters. Designed by Laurent Giles and built by Westerly, a yard renowned for its distinctive cruising yachts with practical layouts and seaworthy characteristics, the Centaur features a round bilge hull and is configured as a twin keel, with two keels instead of a bilge keel. This keel configuration allows for drying out and contributes to the boat's stability. With its single rudder and sheltered cockpit, this boat is particularly suitable for coastal waters, longer weekends, and holiday trips. The Centaur is a version C, where the galley is located directly to starboard next to the companionway. Additionally, there is a spacious lazarette at the rear of the cockpit, ideal for lines, fenders, tools, and other equipment. Its fixed berths accommodate four people comfortably. The standing height inside is approximately 1.85 meters, making the accommodation pleasant for onboard living. Westerly Centaur now available in online auction. Everyone can bid until October 19, 2026. What has this boat been used for? The Westerly Centaur has been used in recent years for recreational sailing, holidays, and weekend trips at sea. The current owners have sailed her for two years around the Anglo-Norman Islands where she has proven her worth in waters with short waves, strong currents, and significant tidal differences. Previously, the boat was owned by German owners who typically used her for about two months each year. Outside of the sailing season, she was stored at Dauphin Nautic shipyard in Paimpol. Her sailing area mainly consisted of the French coast and the Channel. The sheltered cockpit provides a safe and comfortable feeling while underway, while her sailing characteristics are well-suited for cruising along rocky coasts, islands, and sheltered bays. A special moment for the current owners was anchoring at Belvoir Bay on Herm Island. Such destinations clearly illustrate what this compact cabin cruiser is designed for: independent sailing, enjoying the coast, and overnighting in beautiful spots. How is the accommodation onboard? Inside she features a cozy dining area and a cooking appliance. The layout is practical and straightforward with four fixed berths. The galley is located directly to starboard after the entrance, making cooking onboard easily accessible without unnecessarily burdening the living space. The water tank has a capacity of approximately 65 liters. The boat is especially suitable for a couple or a small family that values independent sailing and outdoor living. Four adults can overnight onboard; however, the owners honestly indicate that sleeping arrangements for four tall adults during an extended stay may feel somewhat limited. For weekends or holidays with two people or shorter trips, her layout offers plenty of possibilities. A marine toilet is present onboard with direct discharge to overboard. Additionally, the cabin features lighting and there is a 12-volt system with shore power connection at 220 volts. A battery charger, voltmeter, and two batteries with a total capacity of 154 Ah make her suitable for comfortable stays without being directly dependent on shore power. What engine and technology does she have? The Westerly Centaur is powered by a Yanmar 3GMD inboard diesel engine from 1985. This three-cylinder engine delivers 20 hp and has approximately 700 running hours. It starts manually and runs on diesel fuel with an estimated consumption around 2.5 liters per hour. The cruising speed is about 10 kilometers per hour with a maximum of approximately 15 kilometers per hour under engine power. The engine is operational and serviced annually for winter preparation. In 2026 oil and all filters were replaced along with anodes and water pump impeller. The drive belts were renewed in 2025. For the next owner there are some technical points to address including replacing engine mounts and battery connectors; currently the batteries are continuously linked together. These points have been clearly noted so that an interested buyer can have her inspected accordingly or adjust as desired. What sails and navigation equipment are present? The sail plan consists of a mainsail, genoa, spinnaker, and storm jib. The genoa from North Sails was made in 2025 and operates on a roller system. The trinquette is also new while the light spinnaker remains in good condition complete with its sock. The mainsail is in good usable condition as well; running rigging was renewed in 2026 while standing rigging remains strong according to the owner. For navigation she comes equipped with a fixed Garmin GPS unit, compass, Lowrance Link 5 VHF radio, and Humminbird fishfinder which may function intermittently over time requiring potential replacement later on. The aluminum mast combined with existing sails provides versatile rigging suitable for relaxed cruising as well as more sporty conditions; featuring reefing systems on both genoa and headsail makes sail handling from the cockpit easier. What is the condition of the hull and deck? The overall condition of this used sailing boat is described as fair. In 2026 it was taken out of water for work on its underwater hull as well as aesthetics; antifouling was applied while hull painting was completed along with treatment of woodwork using teak oil; even cockpit painting was done along with addressing one forward cleat on starboard side too.The keel structure shows no known issues while bilge remains dry. Important for any interested buyer to note: signs of osmosis have been identified which should be addressed after...
