The Lynæskutter (also called the "Isefjord boat") is a classic Danish sailboat type from the 19th century. It was built on the northern Zealand (Lynæs) as an enlarged fishing dinghy. After a severe hurricane in 1852, the Ole Jensen shipyard in Lynæs built larger, ocean-going fishing boats based on the principles of the earlier Lynæs dinghies The boat design is characterized by a fine stem ("pointed gate") and an unusually high length-width ratio (approx. 2.5 : 1) This form proved to be very seaworthy in the rough seas of the Kattegat Lynæskutters are classic clinker-plank wooden boats. In the example of "Paul-Henrik" (replica from 1993), the approximately 18 outer planks on each side of the ship (each 28 mm thick) are made of larch or oak wood The planks are riveted with about 4000 copper rivets and grouted with a permanently elastic sealant, so that the boat remains permanently tight and does not have to be recalibrated The deck, superstructure and interior are partly made of teak and mahogany – high-quality materials that give the boat a traditional, cosy character The rigging is a cutter rig with gaff mainsail and a large square-rigged topsail above the mainsail Characteristic is the sharp, pointed stern (pointed gate) and the wide, round transom, which give the boat good course stability even in heavy seas. "Paul-Henrik" was not designed and built by "Paul Henrik", but by the Danish master boat builder Henrik Jensen (Faaborg) Jensen is known for building modern replicas of classic wooden boats in traditional construction. For example, in 1970 he built the open Lynæs boat "Mor Danmark", which served as a model for "Paul-Henrik" His works are characterized by elaborate manual work (over 6000 hours of work at "Paul-Henrik" and historical authenticity. In the German sailing scene, Jensen is appreciated for his high-quality replicas (e.g. through reports in trade magazines.
