Trapper 500 - Polyester sailboat from 1978 with 6 sleeping berths The Trapper 500 is a classic polyester sailboat, built in 1978 by Trapper Yachts in the United Kingdom. This model is designed as a compact yet functional sailboat, suitable for day trips and short stays on board. With a length of 8.53 meters and a beam of 2.80 meters, the boat accommodates up to six fixed sleeping berths, making it suitable for small groups or families looking to hit the water. Construction and design The hull of the Trapper 500 is designed in a round bilge shape, contributing to the stability and sailing performance of the vessel. The hull material is polyester, commonly used in yacht construction for its strength and relatively low maintenance. The draft is 1.45 meters, making the boat suitable for both inland waters and coastal areas. Steering is done via a tiller placed in the open cockpit. The rudder is single. The boat features an aluminum mast and comes equipped with a standard sail plan consisting of a mainsail and a jib. For added convenience, the Trapper 500 is fitted with a genoa reefing system and a roller mainsail. Engine The Trapper 500 is powered by a 6 hp Yanmar inboard diesel engine, also from 1978. The engine is electrically started and operational. This engine setup is suitable for harbor maneuvers and short distances under motor power. Interior and amenities Inside, the boat offers simple accommodation, including a dining area and a two-burner gas stove. The water tank has a capacity of approximately 60 liters. For sanitary facilities, there is a chemical toilet on board. The toilet waste does not discharge directly into open water. The six sleeping berths are divided between the cabin and possibly a fore or aft cabin, depending on the layout. The interior space is functionally arranged for short stays, such as a weekend on the water. Maintenance and usage The boat is 47 years old and has seen intensive use. The last time the vessel was taken out of the water for maintenance and antifouling was in 2022. There is some overdue maintenance. The condition of the sails is described as fair. The Trapper 500 was originally exported from England and comes with a customs import document. Suitable use According to the current owner, the Trapper 500 has mainly been used for day trips and short weekend stays. Due to its dimensions and equipment, the boat is suitable for recreational use on inland waters and sheltered coastal areas. It offers a basic level of comfort and functionality for sailors seeking a classic model with character. The Trapper 500 provides a foundational platform for sailors in search of a classic sailboat with simple amenities.
