Description

This Norwegian Jol, a classic double-ended sailing ship with a long keel and semi S-frame hull, was built in 1945 by the renowned Dekker & Weinholt shipyard in Amsterdam. The vessel is crafted from oak on oak frames, a traditional construction method that contributes to the robust structure and authentic character of this vessel. Measuring 7.60 meters in length, 2.45 meters in width, and with a draft of 0.85 meters, this ship is suitable for various inland waters. The air draft is 11 meters, allowing it to pass under most bridges. Construction and Finishing The hull is finished with a two-component marine blue lacquer from De IJssel, while the deck features a cream-colored non-slip finish, also in two-component lacquer. The cabin roof is made of teak with a varnished wooden frame. The cockpit is made of mahogany and oak, varnished clear, enhancing the ship's classic appearance. In 2024 and 2025, the ship underwent thorough renovation. The hull and deck were epoxy coated. The mast and boom are wooden and varnished clear. The boom is equipped with a roller reefing system, but three reefs can also be set using reef lines and cringles. Sail Equipment The sail plan includes a mainsail and two headsails: a genoa and a working jib. The mast is collapsible with a winch on the foredeck, a bokkenpoot, and a second forestay. The backstay is attached to the mast support on the aft deck. This setup allows for relatively easy mast lowering, with the aft shrouds providing support. After lowering, the bokkenpoot remains in place and acts as a railing on the foredeck. Engine and Technology The boat is equipped with a Volvo Penta 2001 diesel engine (14 hp, 1 cylinder, built in 1996). The engine has a new fuel pump, renewed rubber hoses, and a new thermostat in the cooling system. The fuel tank has a capacity of 30 liters and can be filled via a brass filler cap on the aft deck. The fuel supply is copper and equipped with a ball valve. The electrical system consists of a 12V system with a dynamo, battery charger, voltmeter, and an 80 Ah battery. The cabin lighting is LED. There is a charging station for mobile devices. All fittings of the stays and the mast lowering system are 10 mm stainless steel eye bolts. Interior and Comfort The cabin provides sleeping space for four people. Port and starboard have pull-out benches that form a bed of 180 x 80 cm together. In the bow, there are two fixed berths. Space for a chemical toilet is available forward of the mast (not included). A two-burner spirit stove is placed to starboard, and a stainless steel sink with foot pump for water supply is to port. A 120-liter water bag is located under the bow. Equipment and Extras The boat is equipped with a manual and an electric bilge pump, with the electric pump activated by a float switch. A Danforth anchor with chain and line is present. The cockpit can be covered with a new tarpaulin bearing the name "SOTA." The mainsail cover is used, and the cabin and foredeck tarpaulin are functional but may need replacement in the future. Registration and Use The boat is registered with the Classic Sharp Yachts Association under number 1231. Various documents are available, including drawings and purchase contracts. The Norwegian Jol has mainly been used for pleasure cruising on inland waters.
