Westerly Typhoon 37 – 1991 EU VAT Paid Fully equipped for bluewater cruising, liveaboard life, or extended passage-making. The S/Y Avietti is a rare opportunity to acquire one of only 40 Westerly Typhoon 37 ever built and one of Westerly’s finest performance cruisers! Designed by Ed Dubois and built to Lloyd’s standards. A true performance cruiser renowned for strength, stability and seaworthiness in all types of water. This Typhoon 37 particular vessel has been extensively updated for bluewater cruising and is fully ready to cast off today. This Westerly Typhoon is a great choice for a couple or a family planning to cruise the oceans, for live-aboard or for coastal sailing. Westerly is well known in UK and northern Europe, and often compared to boats like Hallberg-Rassy, Moody and Malö from the years when shipyards were building yachts with hull thickness, teak and mahogany interior to last. This Westerly Typhoon 37 feet model was built between 1990 and 1993. It became very popular and still is, due to its fantastic construction qualities and proven performances. The Westerly Typhoon is rarer than most other Westerlys and if you value performance, it is definitely one of the best sailing yachts Westerly ever built. The same hull was later also used for the following model, Westerly Ocean 37. The hull is a solid hand-laid GRP laminate, with GRP foam sandwich deck construction, with plywood backing pads and metal plates under fittings. Westerly has always had a good reputation for build quality, and the hulls have Lloyds hull construction certificates - LIoyds specifications (HCC SOU 016138). The execution of this Westerly Typhoon 37 version consists of 2 cabins, a saloon and 1 head. The interior is classic and functional, with quality top-class teak mixed with quality textiles. The floor in classic teak-and-holly with good storage spaces underneath. On the port side is a practical L-shaped galley, with plenty of storage, stove, oven and fridge box. On the starboard side, on the opposite side to the galley, is the navigation area. The spacious saloon has 2 comfortable sofas on each side, which also provide berths for two, and a flap table, seating 6 people. The master cabin has a double bed and is situated in the forward part of the boat. The guest cabin with a double bed is located on the starboard aft side and on the same side you find the head with a toilet and a shower. The deep cockpit is a good safety feature design. Everything is optimally placed so that the boat can be easily sailed by one or two people and feels very secure while moving about or trimming, especially when heeled. The conventional block- and tackle mainsheet system in the cockpit allows quick, simple, and safe control by the crew or the helmsman. The high backrests in the cockpit provide comfort and convenience, and under the large sprayhood you are well protected from the elements. Inboard winches allow the sails to be trimmed from the safety of the bridge deck. History The S/Y Avietti has had four owners. The first owner ordered every possible option in the build, more than doubling the new price of the boat, and she still benefits from many of those improvements. The boat had an easy life in the first 5 years, sailing between the Solent and France, and being professionally maintained and laid-up each winter. Her second owner kept the boat for 20 years, taking her to the Caribbean on the 2006 ARC and cruising there for 5 years before sailing back to UK. The third owner bought S/Y Avietti in early 2019. Initially cruising in the UK and around south and west Ireland. Between 2021-2024 they sailed south, around the Canarie Islands, Madeira, Galicia and the Algarve. For the most part of 2023 she was on the hard in Portimao, Algarve (Portugal) due to medical issues. The current owners bought the boat in 2024 with a plan to do longer periods of cruising. They have sailed along the coasts of Portugal and and as far as Porto. A new job opportunity has turned up, and they are now moving to the US and the long-term sailing plans are postponed and this is why they now are selling this fantastic boat. The boat is registered in Poland (EU) and is moored in Lagos on the south coast of Portugal. An ideal launching point for Mediterranean, Atlantic, and the Algarve coast.
