Sturdy and highly seaworthy cruiser with elegant, elongated lines reminiscent of classic designs from the US East Coast. The office of Alden Associates, founded by the legendary designer John G. Alden, excelled in producing fast yet secure IOR Offshore Cruiser-Racers since the 1950s, with many achieving silver in prestigious races like the Newport-Bermuda-Race. A popular model known for its excellent sailing characteristics was the Alden 44, a design from 1976, of which a total of 40 units were built by Tillotson-Pearson. Featuring eight berths within a manageable 44-foot size and a flexible sail plan with a cutter stay, it was a perfect blend of a sporty racer with a full regatta crew and a reliable cruiser for a small team. Its centerboard hull with a variable draft of 1.50 to 2.70 meters made it a versatile cruising yacht suitable for various areas like tidal waters or island groups. The Alden 44 "Tioga" has made its way to the Baltic Sea after decades on the US East Coast. The current owner has significantly invested in maintaining the yacht and upgrading its equipment in recent years. In 2023, a new YANMAR diesel engine with propulsion and propeller was installed, along with a bow thruster. In 2017, a new teak deck was laid, and the hull was repainted. The mast and standing rigging are from 2016. For the upcoming 2025 season, the yacht will also receive a new set of sails from ELVSTRÖM. The Alden 44 is currently in winter storage on the Schlei (German Baltic coast) and can be viewed there by appointment.
