Harding Sloep 800 now in the online auction. Everyone can bid until May 18, 2026. Harding Sloep 800 (1972) – characterful rescue sloop with Vetus diesel engine and bow thruster This Harding Sloep 800 from 1972 is a striking vessel for those seeking a spacious, stable sloop with a rugged origin. It is a converted Harding rescue sloop, certified in 1978 (Maseco certificate available) and later refitted for comfortable recreational use. With a length of 8.00 meters, a width of 2.75 meters, and a shallow draft of approximately 0.50 meters, this type of boat is interesting for various sailing areas: from canals and ditches to lakes and larger inland waters. The headroom of about 1.10 meters also makes it suitable for routes with low bridges, making this sloop particularly attractive for urban journeys. Harding Sloep 800 now in the online auction. Everyone can bid until May 18, 2026. Robust polyester hull with ballast and stable handling The hull is made of polyester and the ship weighs around 3,600 kg. An important feature is the ballast present (around 2,400 kg), contributing to a solid, stable position in the water. This is especially noticeable when sailing with multiple people: the sloop maintains its course. This makes the Harding Sloep 800 appealing to buyers who value stability and a relaxed sailing experience, even when the water is a bit livelier. Layout and comfort: spacious seating and forepeak with possibilities Onboard, the layout is designed so that a group can sit comfortably; practically, there is space for about 12 people on board. This makes this sloop suitable for day trips with family or friends, waterborne gatherings, and leisurely cruises through the city. There is a forepeak currently used for storage but suitable for conversion into a simple sleeping area. The headroom inside is approximately 0.90 meters, fitting the character of a sloop: primarily focused on outdoor living and seating comfort, with interior space as a practical addition. A toilet is not present. Vetus 25 hp inboard diesel engine: economical cruising and smooth maneuvering The propulsion consists of a Vetus inboard diesel engine of 25 hp with electric start and three cylinders. The indicated number of operating hours is around 250. The cruising speed is around 10 km/h and the top speed around 12 km/h, suitable for relaxed sloop cruising and efficient touring. With a diesel tank of 75 liters, there is a usable range for longer day trips. Monitoring includes a tachometer and temperature gauge. An important asset is the electric bow thruster, installed in 2017. Combined with wheel steering (inside position), this aids in docking and maneuvering in tight canals or harbors, especially given the length and weight of the vessel. The rudder is single and was renewed in 2019. It is noted that the steering wheel has some play; a consideration for a buyer who values precise steering feel. Deck equipment and practical extras For shelter, there is a sprayhood, overhauled in 2025. The boat is also equipped with fenders and lines, a swim ladder, and an anchor with line attachment. Rowing oars are available, which can be handy as an emergency option or for short movements. The bilge pump is electric. There are two batteries on board. The audio system works, but three out of the four speakers are defective; this is usually easy to replace, allowing you to upgrade the onboard entertainment relatively quickly to your liking. Maintenance and areas of attention: room for personal finishing The boat was last out of the water in 2025. The last antifouling treatment was in 2022. It is known that the woodwork could use a varnishing; for many enthusiasts, this is an opportunity to refine the appearance to their taste and emphasize the classic character of this Harding sloop. Origin and character: from New York to the Netherlands This sloop has a unique history: originating from New York, later fitted with wooden inlay in the Middle East, and then imported to the Netherlands. It came into current ownership in 2015, with focused investments in key components such as the (revised) engine placement in 2015, the bow thruster in 2017, and the interior refurbishment in 2018. This makes the vessel appealing to buyers looking for a rugged, characterful sloop with a story, ample space, and a pleasant foundation for years of sailing pleasure on inland waters, canals, and lakes.
