The Swan 44 is one of the most iconic S&S Swan designs of all the time with 76 hulls built between 1972 and 1975. A fibreglass IOR Sloop by Sparkman & Stephens, the Swan 44 S&S was first introduced by Nautor’s Swan at the 1972 fall boat shows, at the London Boat show she was awarded the “Boat of the Yacht Show”, the first in history of a non-British built boat won. FOUR WINDS is hull 14 and was launched in June 1973 for her English owner with the original name of FOUR WINDS II. During the 1980s she was owned from a French yachtsman who sailed the boat between France and Caribbean. In 2001 an Italian owner bought her and completed the first big refit with a new forward cabin restyling creating a large king-size double berth. Following this refit, FOUR WINDS passed through another Italian ownership before ending up in the hands of a Dutch owner who renamed her MOHAWK. In 2014, she was sold again to a passionate Danish S&S Swan aficionado who changed her name back to FOUR WINDS before embarking on a comprehensive refit and upgrade programme at the Caffarena Boatyard in Italy which is renowned within S&S Swan circles for their work on S&S Swan 44’s. FOUR WINDS was then sold by Grabau International in 2020 to her current Italian owner who has continued the programme of update and refit as well as enjoying sailing her in the Mediterranean over the past few seasons. Now offered for sale to make way for a larger yacht, FOUR WINDS offers a great opportunity to acquire a ‘turn key’ classic Swan, eligible to take part in some of the most iconic regattas and yachting rendezvous across the Med’ and further afield. Her specification highlights include:- • Solid laminate GRP hull construction • 16mm teak laid side decks – replaced 2017 (but kept undercover until relaunch in 2020) • Repainted superstructure and cockpit areas • 2.10m lead fin keel with full-depth skeg-supported rudder blade • Up to 8-berths in 2-cabins plus saloon with one heads, finished in Nautor teak joinery • Beta Marine 38hp engine with shaft drive and MaxProp • Battery charger and inverter • Solar panel • Schenker 65litres per hour reverse osmosis watermaker • Blakes seacocks • B&G H5000 navigation instruments • B&G Vulcan chart plotters and Halo+ radar scanner • AIS • Gas stove with oven and grill • Refrigerator • Webasto diesel fired hot air cabin heating system • Fusion Bluetooth stereo system • Alcantara upholstery • Updated painted Nautor mast and boom with stainless steel wire standing rigging • Navtec hydraulic backstay adjuster • Harken genoa furler • Removable inner forestay • Removable bowsprit of A-sails • Harken Performa self-tailing winch package • Millenium Sails cruising and racing sail wardrobe with ARXE Spirit of Tradition Kevlar 49 mainsail and genoa, and gennakers • Folding passarelle • Lofrans electric anchor windlass • Sprayhood and bimini • Liferaft
