This is a privately created ad for Colin Archer, build year 1983. Colin Archer (22 July 1832 – 8 February 1921) was a Norwegian naval architect hailing from Larvik on Norway's southeast coast. Renowned for his seaworthy and swift double-ended pilot boats, yachts, and rescue vessels, he also crafted sailing ships for trade and polar adventures. Archer is famed for the rescue boats and the polar ship FRAM, used by both Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen. Archer's first vessel, MAGGIE, was constructed in 1866/67, featuring clinker-built design and measuring only 26 feet. Replacing the family's traditional boat, it was lauded for speed in Larvik fjord. The customs ordered a 40-foot gaff-rigged cutter too large for his shed, built outdoors instead. Pleased, they commissioned more, this time carvel-built, at 36 and 42 feet. The “Colin Archer-type” became synonymous with stability, sporting heavy ballast keels and sharp bows. Archer constructed about 120 such boats, while thousands have been crafted worldwide in diverse materials.
